She-Hulk isn’t the only attorney hitting screens this month. The newest legal drama from Netflix is on the horizon, and it sounds like it will be worth the watch, based on comments from Forbes. Partner Track follows Ingrid (Arden Cho), an attorney who is well on her way to becoming a partner at her firm in New York. However, when someone from her past returns and she begins to question how she lives her life, everything could change.

Deadline reported that Georgia Lee and Sarah Goldfinger would serve as the co-showrunners, with Lee credited as the creator. Goldfinger is known for her work on Hawaii Five-0, Almost Human, and Charmed, while Lee has previously written for The Expanse. The two showrunners are also executive producers alongside Kristen Campo (The L Word: Generation Q), Julie Anne Robinson (Bridgerton), Tony Hernandez (Uncoupled, Emily in Paris), and Kim Shumway (The 100). Michael Amodio (Uncoupled, Emily in Paris) also serves as a producer.

Partner Track: The Plot

     Netflix

Ingrid’s life is on track. After six years filled with hard work, she is in the perfect position to become a partner at her law firm. She’s seeing a man that is considered one of the most eligible bachelors in New York. Everything seems to be working out for Ingrid until someone from her past shows up and causes her to question every aspect of her life.

When Murphy (Dominic Sherwood), a former lover, starts working at her firm, she can’t get him out of her head. Based on what she tells her friend in the trailer, he is “not the love of her life,” and she last saw or interacted with him six years previously, conveniently at the start of the climb up the partner ladder. Seems like they had something pretty serious, or at least something memorable, if running into him years later causes her to question everything.

As the story moves along, it seems like Ingrid is going to have a healthy competitor in fellow attorney Dan (Nolan Gerard Funk) for the partner spot, but she is determined. Though determined, it looks like she begins to realize there is more to life than working 24/7. Will she find herself in the process? Will she make partner? Will she be forced to compromise on her beliefs for the sake of her career? Will she end up with one of the men on her mind?

Everything Else We Know

The series is based on the 2013 book of the same name by Helen Wan. Wan is listed as a consultant for the series on IMDb. The Partner Track follows Ingrid, described as a first-generation Chinese American who would be the first minority woman to be a partner at her law firm. According to the book synopsis, an incident happens that causes Ingrid to try and work damage control for her firm, being made to handle the new Diversity and Inclusion Initiative.

Will this all be included in the series? There should be room in a ten-episode series, more so than writers would’ve had with a film adaptation, and these would be great storylines to include as Ingrid tries to find herself outside the work environment.

Partner Track is already receiving positive reviews. Dana Feldman wrote for Forbes that it is “the perfect binge to wrap up summer.” Feldman even comments that fans may be able to expect a second season based on the cliffhanger the final episode ends on. Based on the review, it seems they changed Ingrid to a Korean American, which still gives the representation book fans may hope for.
