While there haven’t been many ground-breaking dramas like Stranger, Voice, or Signal in recent years, the Korean television industry has produced some phenomenal shows like Move to Heaven, Vincenzo, and 2021’s massive hit Taxi Driver. Fans witnessed one of Lee Je Hoon’s best performances in the first season, in which he played various roles to perfection, and there was no shortage of action and thrills throughout the series.
Taxi Driver, which aired on Netflix from April 9 to May 29, 2021, told the story of Rainbow Taxi, a group of victimized individuals who began punishing criminals in their own way while evading the law. Kim Do Gi (Lee Je Hoon) and his team brought justice to people who had been bullied and judged unfairly by democracy, and in the end, despite many setbacks, they reformed Rainbow Taxi. While a lot happened in the first season, the second season promises to be even more entertaining. Here’s what we’re hoping to see in Taxi Driver season two.

Rainbow Taxi’s New Mission
Netflix
Taxi Driver, in the tradition of Korean dramas, dealt with the main antagonist in the fifteenth episode and began wrapping up everything in the final episode. As we have seen, Jang Sang Chul’s efforts to change society resulted in his own detriment owing to his circumstances and mistakes. They eventually disbanded for a time and went about their lives before reuniting to bring justice to the victims. So, what challenges will Rainbow Taxi face in the awaited second season?
According to the SBS teaser, the second season expanded Rainbow Taxi’s operations to Vietnam. This time, they’re up against even more formidable opponents, as seen in the teaser, where Kim Do Gi battles gangster mobs. There was also a clip revealing that Jang Sung Chul was arrested by the police, implying a new threat on the legal aspect.
Esom Won’t Return For Season 2
While fans despised Kang Hana’s character in the first ten episodes for interfering with Kim Do Gi’s mission, she eventually joined the Rainbow Taxi. However, Esom, who was played by Kang Hana in the first season, will not be recast in the second season for unknown reasons. Despite a few flaws in her character that fans have pointed out, she undoubtedly played an influential role. Without her, the second season may be underwhelming unless she is replaced by another actor or a new character is introduced to take her place.
With Esom leaving the cast, there is still a vacant spot to fill in place of the female lead unless they make Pyo Ye Jin more prominent this season than in the first. Writers can go one of two ways. They either make her act as the backbone for Rainbow Taxi as she always has, but this time using the law against criminals while supporting the team from the shadows, or form a romantic relationship between her and the main lead. The second assumption, however, is more feasible, as fans have been shipping Kim Do Gi and Ahn Go Eun for quite some time.
Kim Do Gi and Ahn Go Eun’s Romance
We’ve seen Kim Do Gi and Ahn Go Eun’s chemistry on numerous occasions, so we believe they’ll end up romantically involved. For instance, when Kim Do Gi was admitted to the hospital for overexerting himself, she scolded him and immediately blushed. On a few other occasions, the writers hint at her feelings for Kim Do Gi, most notably when she hugs him at the end of the first season. Even though it was a friendly farewell hug, there was obviously more affection than was expressed.
Kim Do Gi, on the other hand, had no time for romance because he was constantly delivering justice to victims and was stuck because of his mother’s death-related traumas. In contrast, he understands Ahn Go Eun better than anyone else and values their relationship. When Ahn Go Eun crumbles during the Udata mission after learning about her sister’s dark past, he gives her space, implying that he knows her better than anyone else. Given their on- and off-screen chemistry, a little romance between them would be thoughtful, though too much would detract from the drama’s main theme.
Shin Jae Ha, who played the bully in the first season, is mentioned in the cast of Taxi Driver’s second season. He has a good chance of playing a reformed character and assisting Kim Do Gi in some way, but he could also end up being a threat, given how grudges can transform a person. While the cast and crew did not reveal any details about the upcoming season, lead actor Lee Je Hoon expressed his thoughts in an interview with Soompi.
“We’ve been filming for a long time, so there are a lot of regrets now that it’s over. Instead of feeling relieved to bid Kim Do Gi and ‘Taxi Driver’ goodbye, I want to spend more time with the Rainbow Taxi crew. At the end of the last episode, CEO Jang wrote something on the blackboard. There have been shocking cases in real life, such as a child being violently abused and abandoned or the YoungNam Flour Mills case a few years ago. Those cases were put to trial, but whether they were properly resolved is a different question. It would be good if we were to think again about those kinds of things, so I think it would be meaningful if ‘Taxi Driver’ were to reinterpret cases that were unresolved in the past. A 16-episode miniseries was too short to contain all the stories that we could have told.”
