Marvel rumors are like a merry-go-round. With so many movies and TV shows in production at the same time, you can’t visit an entertainment news site without tripping over another set of possibilities of what may be coming out, especially when considering the future of Hollywood’s biggest interconnected franchise. This time around, it is Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania that is getting some attention and while the movie doesn’t arrive in cinemas until 2023, there is still a lot of speculation about who and what will be seen in one of the last Marvel movies of the Phase 4 schedule. Recently, it was suggested that as well as the arrival of big bad Kang the Conqueror in the movie, there could be another villain making an appearance in the form of MODOK. We may have an idea of who could be playing one of Marvel’s more peculiar characters. You know by now, that this is the point to abandon ship if you don’t want to know the latest potential spoilers.

Rumors have been circulating for a little that MODOK could be making an appearance in the upcoming Ant-Man threequel, and for almost the same amount of time it has been known that Corey Stoll would be returning to the franchise after being thought to have met his demise in the first Ant-Man movie when he became the villain Yellowjacket and was subsequently imploded and sucked into the Quantum Realm. The rumors of Stoll’s return stemmed from a mistake by The Wasp actress Evangeline Lilly, who posted the front cover of her personal copy of the Quantumania script and tagged Stoll in the post along with all the other returning stars of the movie.

It was a pretty fair assumption to make that Stoll would be reprising his Darren Cross/Yellowjacket role, because as we now know there are ways back from the Quantum Realm, as the Pyms and Scott Lang have proven. However, the latest suggestion is that Stoll will actually be playing MODOK in the movie. Considering the potentially traumatic experience Cross went through, it could well be possible that his years in the Quantum Realm will have helped him to evolve into the form of MODOK.

The Marvel villain, whose acronymic name stands for Mental/Mobile/Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing was originally a man who attempts to become a super-intelligent being, and while undergoing experimentations finds his body becoming grossly distorted with his head becoming bulbously enlarged while his body is stunted and he is forced to be fitting into a hoverchair to get around. While there would be a difference in origin story, having seen what the Quantum Realm is capable of, it would be quite possible for Cross to become MODOK during his time lost and broken in the otherworldly dimension.

How MODOK or Cross would fit into the bigger story is anyone’s guess, especially as by the time Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania comes around we will be well and truly lost in the multiverse, have Kang the Conqueror to contend with and who knows what else is going to come out of the dark to surprise us on this one. The title alone should really give away that this Ant-Man movie is possibly going to get a little more serious when it arrives on July 28th, 2023. This news comes from The GWW.
