While Marvel and Sony were happy to play fans along with the release of the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, John Cena took to the stage at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend and announced that a new trailer for Peacemaker will be arriving on Friday December 3rd ahead of the show’s January release. Cena arrived at the event in full Peacemaker suit to thank fans for their support for both the character and the upcoming The Suicide Squad spin-off series based around Christopher Smith. It seems that if there are two ways to build up hype, Cena certainly goes for a more in your face approach, telling fans to get out and watch the trailer and spread the word that Peacemaker is coming.

The series comes on the back of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, which featured a mostly new collective of anti-heros on a mission with Task Force X. Along with the likes of Harley Quinn, Bloodsport and King Shark, Cena’s Peacemaker took on an almost impossible task and during the movie Peacemaker turned out to be a planted operative of Amanda Waller, and his path took him into a conflict with his fellow team members, culminating with Idris Elba’s Bloodsport shooting him. While it seemed that this was the end of Peacemaker, the post-credit scene revealed that he actually survived the shooting, setting him up for a reunion with Advanced Research Group Uniting Super-Humans personnel.

A new clip from the show was recently released, showing John Cena talking to a hospital cleaner and trying to convince him that he is a “superhero”. In the clip, the janitor tells him he’s not famous like Aquaman, provoking Peacemaker to throw shade on Jason Momoa’s aquatic Justice League hero. While this certainly plans the seed that the world of The Suicide Squad and Justice League are very connected, it is unlikely we will see any kind of crossover in the near future with so many other projects on the go at the moment.

James Gunn has teased multiple times that he has plans to work closely with DC in the coming years following the completion of his work on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, which is filming now. While it has been suggested that this could include a number of other solo spin-offs from The Suicide Squad, Gunn teased another project in a tweet to a fan back in October, which simply said, “Yes I’m developing another DC project besides Peacemaker.”

So far the main plot of Peacemaker is still under wraps, but the previous series trailer has given fans a good idea of what to expect when the series arrives in January, and it looks like we can expect pretty much more of the same from John Cena in the action packed, R-rated adventure, which will play out over eight episodes on HBO Max. Expect to see more unseen footage from the violent comedy anti-hero when the trailer drops on Friday, when we may also find out exactly when in January the series will kick off.
