Star Wars series Skeleton Crew has suffered a lot of unrest during filming according to a new report. As one of the upcoming Disney+ Star Wars shows, Skeleton Crew is said have had a troubled production with many crew members leaving the project and claiming to have felt that their work on the show was not being appreciated.

Star Wars site Making Star Wars reported that Skeleton Crew has seen one of the most disjointed productions of recent years thanks to a high turnover of crew members, one of which commented that the “run on Skeleton Crew has been rougher than all the other Star Wars productions combined for most of them.” The same source was said to have commented that the show itself will most likely not suffer for the issues, but said, “We sure did on this one.” The report goes on to say that the crew were “underappreciated, disposable and disrespected” while there were “management shifts and the morale fell pretty low.”

The reports from Skeleton Crew come not too long after numerous stories about Marvel Studios VFX artists complaining about the unrealistic deadlines and excessive work schedules being put upon them due to the huge output of the studio. While there are obviously always tight deadlines to be met when working on such high-profile productions, it seems that things are starting to come to a head with just how much crews are willing to take in order to work on big franchises such as Star Wars and Marvel.

Skeleton Crew Has A Reportedly Huge Budget

Although many Star Wars fans are more interested in the upcoming third season of The Mandalorian right now, the Jude Law-starring Skeleton Crew is promising a lot and is bringing with it one of the highest budgets ever seen on a Star Wars series. It was previously reported that the show’s first season will cost around $136 million, a third more than the debut season of The Mandalorian. The question now is whether Skeleton Crew is going to be able to make that budget pay for Lucasfilm.

The Star Wars franchise has rarely put a foot wrong with its Disney+ output, and even the likes of The Book of Boba Fett, which failed to quite connect with audiences as expected, still pulled in huge audience volumes to the platform. Skeleton Crew’s new story could be taking a big risk by having such a hefty budget, as unless the series instantly connects with fans, then it could end up being money wasted.

There are still many details about Skeleton Crew to be revealed, but like many other recent Star Wars project the show will be set within the existing story of the franchise, and is thought to have direct links to Ahsoka. Jon Favreau recently commented on the current run of Star Wars projects, most of which he is intricately involved in. He said earlier this year:

Skeleton Crew is coming to Disney+ sometime in 2023.

“All those shows that we’ve worked on — Mandalorian, Ahsoka, Book of Boba Fett, now Skeleton Crew — they all exist within the same timeframe. They all exist after Return of the Jedi. So between Episode VI and Episode VII, there’s 30 years there that are somewhat unexplored, certainly on the screen.”
