The Fraggles are coming! The Jim Henson Company just released the first full trailer for their upcoming Fraggle Rock series, Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock! The trailer can be viewed below.

Fraggle Rock is a staple for Muppet fans of all ages, the show danced its way into the hearts of audiences since its initial premiere in 1983. The show followed a group of Fraggle friends, Gobo, Red, Wembly, Boober and Mokey, as they went on musical adventures. They share their home with the workaholic Doozers, tiny creatures that love construction and building—a fun contrast to the non-structured Fraggles.

Fraggle Rock itself is located both under the home of the enormous humanoid Gorgs and the workshop of Doc and his dog Sprocket (known to Fraggles as the Silly Creatures from Outer Space). The show would go on for five seasons, consisting of 96 episodes overall. The success of Fraggle Rock would spawn an animated spinoff, various cameos in other Henson projects, and a 2012 spinoff series titled The Doozers. Throughout the 2000’s and the 2010’s, news was bubbling about a Fraggle Rock feature film in the works. But due to various passes of film and distribution rights, the project would ultimately be scrapped in 2019. But this wouldn’t be the end of the loveable Fraggles.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

On April 21, 2021, a new series of shorts premiered called Fraggle Rock: Rock On! The show premiered on Apple TV+ and featured the Fraggle friends living in separate caves as a means of social distancing; they communicated through a video chat system installed by the Doozers. A total of six episodes have aired so far.

However, it looks like the caves have opened in this new trailer. Our friends from underground are now all singing and dancing together in this new footage. From the looks of it, this show aims to be a reboot of the series, with Uncle Traveling Matt finding the doorway to Outer Space once again. It looks like almost all of our friends have returned, from the Fraggles to the Doozers to the Gorgs. Even Marjory the Trash Heap makes an appearance in the trailer. Sprocket the Dog shows up again but this time with a new owner, which sadly makes sense after Gerard Parkes’s passing in 2014. This new owner appears to be just as lively and not afraid to dance in the workshop!

From the looks of this new trailer, it looks like all the fun from before is back and as beautiful as ever. There’s dancing, original songs, stunning sets, and lots of adventure. There’s a reason Fraggle Rock was so beloved by children and adults from all over the world. The show’s timeless energy allowed it to be seamlessly aired in reruns on various stations all the way up to the 2010’s. In May 2020, Apple TV+ announced that it had acquired exclusive streaming rights for the original show. So, when you’re done traveling Outer Space, Apple TV+ is where you can go to return to your friends in Fraggle Rock. Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock will be joining the streaming service on January 21, 2022.
