Nicolas Cage has a reputation for spending his money in some rather interesting ways, but despite what you might have heard, the actor insists that he does not own a “Bat Cave.” A veteran of the screen, Cage recently returned to theaters with the premiere of his latest film, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. In the acclaimed movie, Cage plays Nick Cage, a parody version of himself as he channels his most famous action movie roles to rescue his kidnapped family.

To help promote the film’s release, Cage appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, marking his first late night talk show appearance in 14 years. The actor was asked about a claim made by Diane Kruger that he had bought a cave during production of National Treasure. Cage opened up with some details about what really happened, explaining how he had heard that there was a cave for sale, but that he didn’t actually buy the cave and have it converted into a superhero’s secret lair. As Cage explains:

Cage admits that the cave was “beautiful,” and even agrees that he might have said that he’d like to buy the cave, imagining the adventures he could have had within with his then-wife. Ultimately, however, Cage did not purchase the cave.

Directed by Tom Gormican and written by Gormican and Kevin Etten, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent presents Nicolas Cage in one might be his strangest role yet. He plays a fictionalized version of himself called Nick Cage with Pedro Pascal co-starring as a Nick Cage superfan. The movie has garnered great acclaim and is one of the highest-rated films of Cage’s career.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is now playing in movie theaters.
