Nicolas Cage is a talented actor, a recipient of several accolades (including an Academy Award and a Golden Globe), and—according to the director of The Old Way—an all-around amazing human being.
Hosting a Q & A session on Reddit’s “Ask Me Anything” forum, director Brett Donowho answered fans’ pressing questions about the upcoming flick, which stars Cage as a “vengeful gunslinger” in his first-ever Western. However, many users only wanted to know one thing: what was it like to work with the National Treasure actor?
“Nick is such an amazing human and a consummate professional,” Donowho wrote in response to a user asking about any particularly memorable moments with the actor. As the director goes on to describe, Cage stepped up to alleviate some on-set pressures when the film lost its first assistant director five days into shooting:

“I have so many stories. I guess one that stands out the most is on day five having lost my first AD.”
“Nick comes to set and after noticing that I am there AD’ing my own set he comments to the crew, ‘well, if Brett has to AD his own set I’ll be my own stand-in’ and proceeded to stand in for me and camera himself.”
The Old Way Producer Says Cage is Always Pleasant and Prepared: ‘He’s a Delight’

Donowho was joined in the virtual Q & A by the film’s producer, Micah Haley, who echoed the director’s praises about the actor.
“Nicolas Cage really is a consummate professional. Not only is he an immensely talented actor, but he comes to set every day prepared and gives it his all,” Haley shared.
A member of one of the most famous families in the film industry, it’s no surprise that Cage—born Nicolas Coppola—is thoroughly professional in everything he does. And while no one would blame the star if he were to phone in the possibility from time to time, Haley says that when it comes to Cage, it’s always genuine.
“You’ll hear a lot of positive generalities coming from the mouths of people promoting their movies, but in Nick’s case, every word of it is true. He’s a delight,” he added.
Cage was even kind enough to record a video for the thread’s participants, wishing fans a happy New Year from his favorite sushi restaurant in Las Vegas.
“I hope you like the movie. I like the movie,” the Face/Off actor said. “Again, happy happy New Year. Enjoy your time together on the Q & A with Brett—terrific guy to work with.”
The Old Way arrives in theaters on Jan. 6. In the meantime, you can check out what else Donowho and Haley had to say about the actor and the upcoming film over on Reddit or watch Cage’s full video below:
