Ghost Rider star Nicolas Cage and The Suicide Squad actor Joel Kinnaman will unite for Sympathy for the Devil, a psychological thriller from The Operative and The Secrets We Keep director Yuval Adler. Revealed by Variety, the project will find Cage and Kinnaman at war after Kinnaman takes up a job as a driver for Cage’s mysterious character.

“This is a tour de force featuring two incredible actors,” producer Allan Ungar said of Sympathy for the Devil. “As an acclaimed filmmaker, Yuval has assembled the perfect cast and brought a unique and gritty vision to this film that will be sure to capture audiences.”

Sympathy for the Devil will center on “The Driver” (Kinnaman) as he finds himself in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse after being forced to drive a mysterious man known as “The Passenger” (Cage). That sets things up for a white-knuckle ride,” the publication reveals. Written by Luke Paradise (Lost on a Mountain in Maine), Sympathy for the Devil sounds like an intriguing two-man tale that should give both Kinnaman and Cage ample opportunity to demonstrate their respective talent — Kinnaman his intense, steely-eyed hero, and Cage his unpredictable mania.

Production on Sympathy for the Devil is currently underway in Las Vegas, with the project due to be shopped around by Capstone Global for worldwide distribution after being introduced to potential buyers at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.

Nicolas Cage & Joel Kinnaman Have Several Interesting Projects on the Horizon

Academy Award-winning actor Nicolas Cage has seen something of a resurgence of late thanks to such critical hits as Pig and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. The actor has several interesting projects on the horizon alongside Sympathy for the Devil, including the western Butcher’s Crossing, a second western The Old Way, and the horror-comedy Renfield, which finds Cage as Count Dracula’s lackey, who finds a new lease on life in modern-day New Orleans when he falls in love with Rebecca Quincy, a feisty but perennially aggressive traffic cop.

Cage also recently signed on to the A24 release, Dream Scenario. A24 is behind such modern classics as Hereditary, Midsommar, and Everything, Everywhere All At Once, which should bode well for both Cage himself and audiences everywhere.

Alongside these projects, there have been ongoing reports that Cage is being sought after for National Treasure 3, with producer Jerry Bruckheimer saying recently, “Let’s hope we’re working on the script right now. Hopefully [Cage] likes it, but it’s really good. So I think we’ll get it to him shortly.”

As for Joel Kinnaman, he is due to lead the dialogue-free action epic Silent Night from Face/Off director John Woo. Silent Night finds Joel Kinnaman as a father on a mission to avenge his young son, who was tragically caught in the crossfire of gang violence on Christmas Eve. Shot and nearly killed while in pursuit of the murderers, Godlock vows to avenge his son by any means necessary.

Silent Night has wrapped principal photography, which took place in Mexico City, and stars Kid Cudi, Harold Torres, and Catalina Sandino Moreno alongside Kinnaman. Silent Night has not yet been given a release date.
