Nicolas Cage has transformed himself into many roles over the years. From a man who swapped faces to a man fighting to save the world on Alcatraz. His roles are just as interesting as his personality. However, is he Goth enough to play the famous Count Dracula? Cage seems to think so as he gets ready to take on the Prince of Darkness. In a recent interview with The Los Angeles Times, he said that he believes he can be Goth enough to take on the new role in Universal’s upcoming film Renfield. Cage says that off-camera he lives a Goth lifestyle and that this role will be that difficult of a stretch for him to sink his teeth into.
Cage does indeed have a pet crow whose name is Hoogan and lives in the actor’s Las Vegas home inside a geodesic dome. According to Cage, “He has taken to calling me names…it’s comical, at least, it is to me. When I leave the room, he’ll say, ‘Bye,’ and then go, ‘Ass.’ Crows are very intelligent. And I like their appearance, the Edgar Allan Poe aspect. I like the Goth element. I am a Goth.”

This is a side of Cage’s personality that we have seen glimpses of in not only his acting but his off-camera lifestyle. It might explain why the role of Dracula in Renfield caught the Oscar winner’s attention. He also explained that watching James Wan’s horror movie Malignant last year made playing a vampire and starring in a horror movie all the more appealing and he drew his inspiration from such films.
Nicolas Cage’s Dracula Is Inspired by Malignant

“The key, I think, is movement,” Cage said, “I saw a movie called Malignant and the director James Wan and the actress [Annabelle Wallis] created this choreography that was terrifying. So I’m hoping to do something like that where Dracula can either glide or move like Sadako in Ringu.” Cage is set to star in Renfield opposite Nicholas Hoult in the title role. Chris McKay, the filmmaker behind The Tomorrow War and The Lego Batman Movie, is directing and producing Renfield from a screenplay by Rick and Morty scribe Ryan Ridley.
The upcoming film is expected to take place in the present day. As of now, we do not know how closely it will follow It’s not clear how much it Bram Stoker’s 1897 horror novel Dracula. However, with Cage being the famous blood sucker, anything can be possible. This isn’t the first time we have seen Nicolas Cage in a vampire role. In the 1989 film Vampire’s Kiss Cage played a man who was convinced he was a vampire. This time however, he will indeed be a true vampire. The most famous vampire of them all, Dracula.
