Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage is no stranger to the world of comic book movies. The actor, who sported a flaming skull for a head in both Ghost Rider and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, would love to jump over to the world of DC to play a Batman villain who also wields a weird head: Egghead.

Discussing comic books and comic book movies at SXSW, Cage put himself forward to take on the role of Egghead opposite Robert Pattinson’s The Batman, believing that he could make this obscure villain “absolutely terrifying.” Frankly, if anyone can do it, it’s Nicolas Cage.

“I like… oh, here’s something, I’ve been thinking about this, because we have this new, Robert Pattinson as the Batman, which I haven’t seen it yet, but I think he would be terrific, the villain that Vincent Price played on the ’60s show, Egghead. I think I want to have a go at Egghead. I think I could make him absolutely terrifying. And I have a concept for Egghead. So let them know over at Warner Bros. I’m down for Egghead.”

Created and introduced in the 1960s Batman series starring Adam West, Egghead was portrayed by horror movie icon Vincent Price. Known for his yellow-and-white costume and oversized, egg-shaped head, Egghead believed himself to be “the world’s smartest criminal,” with his crimes often involving egg-themed motifs, egg-based puns, and egg-shaped weapons. Basically, he really, really loves eggs.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

While the character may look and sound utterly ridiculous, it is impossible not to imagine the darkly grim version of Egghead that could be brought to life by Nicolas Cage and Matt Reeves for a The Batman sequel. After all, The Riddler can be equally ridiculous in the wrong hands (looking at you, Jim Carrey). Now that Reeves has redrawn that particular supervillain as a Seven-style serial killer, could he do something similar with Egghead?

While we await the fateful day that Nicolas Cage terrifies us all as Egghead, the actor is next due to play a warped version of himself in the upcoming meta action-comedy, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Creatively unfulfilled and facing financial ruin, the fictionalized version of Cage must accept a $1 million offer to attend the birthday of a dangerous superfan (Pedro Pascal). Things take a wildly unexpected turn when Cage is recruited by a CIA operative (Tiffany Haddish) and forced to live up to his own legend, channeling his most iconic and beloved on-screen characters in order to save himself and his loved ones. With a career built for this very moment, the seminal award-winning actor must take on the role of a lifetime: Nick Cage.

Directed by Tom Gormican from a screenplay co-written with Kevin Etten, and starring Nicolas Cage, Pedro Pascal, Sharon Horgan, Ike Barinholtz, Alessandra Mastronardi, Jacob Scipio, Neil Patrick Harris, and Tiffany Haddish, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is scheduled to hit theaters on April 22, 2022.
