Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage supports the idea of starring in a Muppets movie, in which he is the only real-life, human actor and every other character is a Muppet. Speaking during an interview with Twitter Movies, Cage responded eagerly to an idea from a fan that suggests that the studio make “a Muppet remake of The Rock keeping Nic Cage as the only non-Muppet character.” Needless to say, Nic Cage is very much on board.

The idea is clearly a brilliant one, as now proven by Nicolas Cage’s personal endorsement, so here’s hoping that Hollywood sits up, takes notice and one day we could be sitting down in theaters to watch Cage stop an assortment of Muppets from unleashing rockets carrying deadly nerve gas on the city of San Francisco.

“I’ve gotta agree with you man, I would love to be in a Muppet movie. I think Kermit and I could be best friends, and I’ve always had a crush on Miss Piggy.”

For those perhaps unaware, The Rock is an action movie classic from 1996. Directed by Michael Bay and starring Nicolas Cage and Sean Connery, The Rock follows a mismatched duo as Cage’s mild-mannered chemist and Connery’s mysterious ex-convict team up to stop a group of rogue marines who are holding the city San Francisco hostage. The Rock is the perfect 90s action thriller, but if it is to ever be remade, it better be with Muppets.

Until that fateful day that The Muppets and Nicolas Cage join forces, The Muppets will stick to the small screen, with the beloved Jim Henson creations due to star in a series titled The Muppets Mayhem on Disney+. The series has been developed by The Goldbergs’ Adam Goldberg and has been described as follows; “After 45 years of rockin’ out, The Electric Mayhem goes on an epic musical journey to finally record their first studio album. With the help of a driven young music executive, Nora, the old-school Muppet band comes face to face with the current day music scene as they try to finally go platinum.”

Just in case you thought that The Muppets remake of The Rock was too crazy to happen, Nicolas Cage’s upcoming outing, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, is proof that, sometimes, even the craziest dreams can happen.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent sees Nicolas Cage star as… Nick Cage in this action-comedy from director Tom Gormican. Creatively unfulfilled and facing financial ruin, the fictionalized version of Cage must accept a $1 million offer to attend the birthday of a dangerous superfan (Pedro Pascal). Things take a wildly unexpected turn when Cage is recruited by a CIA operative (Tiffany Haddish) and forced to live up to his own legend, channeling his most iconic and beloved on-screen characters in order to save himself and his loved ones. With a career built for this very moment, the seminal award-winning actor must take on the role of a lifetime: Nick Cage.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is scheduled to be released on April 22, 2022, by Lionsgate.
