The cast of Ballerina, the first spinoff of the John Wick movie series, is getting stacked. Per Lionsgate, it has just been revealed that Norman Reedus, who will star in his own upcoming spinoff series after eleven seasons of The Walking Dead, has picked up his next big role by joining the cast of Ballerina. The film, which is now in production in Prague, will feature some crossover characters from the previous John Wick movies but with Ana de Armas in the lead role.

“We’re huge fans of Norman, and we’re confident that the fans will be just as excited as we are that he’s joining the Wick universe. He’ll make an incredible addition to Ballerina,” producer Erica Lee said of the news.

It was recently reported that Oscar nominee Catalina Sandino Moreno (Maria Full of Grace, From) had also joined the cast, marking her debut in the franchise. Some familiar faces from the John Wick films will also appear, as Keanu Reeves will be making a cameo to help link the two stories. Anjelica Huston is also back as The Director from John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, while Ian McShane and Lance Reddick respectively return as Winston and Charon. More names are likely to be announced soon as the cast continues to come together.

Reedus might be best known for his role on The Walking Dead, though with that show coming to an end, he’s been expanding his movie work. He was also recently cast for a key role in New Regency’s The Bikeriders as part of an ensemble that also includes Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, Tom Hardy, and Michael Shannon. Reedus also starred in the Boondock Saints films and will reportedly appear in a planned third installment of that series.

Ana de Armas Takes the Lead in Ballerina

Ballerina is directed by Len Wiseman and written by Shay Hatten. It is produced by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chad Stahelski. Brady Fujikawa and Chelsea Kujawa are overseeing the project for Lionsgate.

Ballerina reportedly takes place between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 and John Wick: Chapter 4. The fourth film is yet to be released, as it will hit theaters in March, There’s no indication that de Armas will appear in that film, though it does feature franchise star Laurence Fishburne returning alongside Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, and Lance Reddick. Joining the franchise in the film are Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgard, Hiroyuki Sanada, Scott Adkins, Clancy Brown, Shamier Anderson, and Rina Sawayama.

Ballerina does not yet have a premiere date.
