The characters of The Walking Dead are frequently on the receiving end of some nasty injuries. It seems that working on the show can be just as deadly as Norman Reedus recently revealed when recalling how he believed he might die after sustaining a bad head injury during filming earlier this year. The Walking Dead is coming into its home straight, with the final episodes of the main show playing out this Fall, but for fans of Reedus’ Daryl Dixon, the actor will be back soon in his own spin-off show.
While speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming series finale and his follow-up series, Reedus, who as Daryl has had his fair share of brushes with death over the course of 11 seasons of the show, discussed the concussion he sustained while filming the final part of season 11 and how at one point he did believe he could die after he failed a neurological test and had to be put on watch. He said:

“Oh dude, that was horrible. That whole ordeal for me personally was terrifying. I thought I was going to die. It was very serious. It was scary. I’ve been hit in the face and the head a million times. I’ve gone through car windows, but that one rung my bell. I had a neurologist. I had all sorts of s—. I failed the light test. I had a security guard in the driveway, just in case. I was holding onto the walls walking through the rooms. It was nuts.”
Reedus’ Daryl Spin-Off Will Be An Integral Part Of The Walking Dead Universe
The Walking Dead may be coming to an end, but several high-profile spin-off shows are coming that will continue the stories of most of the main characters. When it comes to the next stage of Daryl’s journey in the zombie-infested world, The Walking Dead’s Chief Content Officer Scott Gimple recently broke down exactly how the Europe-based show will fit in the universe. He previously said:
Daryl’s new story was originally supposed to feature Melissa McBride as Carol, but the actress was forced to pull out after not being able to commit to filming in Europe. However, both McBride and Reedus have said that there will be a reunion between their characters, and fans haven’t seen the last of their onscreen relationship. When exactly they will reunite is yet to be revealed, but with The Walking Dead shambling on into a multi-directional story, there will be plenty of opportunity for that meeting to play out in time.
“The Daryl spinoff takes place in France. [The World Beyond coda] is a bit of a tease of some of the things Daryl is going to face. Daryl is a fish out of water to start with. If Daryl finds himself with new people, he’s a fish out of water. In France, in a country that’s going through the apocalypse, [it’s] an entirely different thing. He finds himself having to reinvent himself again, having to find himself again, and also, not being with — probably — the only people in the world he’s comfortable with.”
