One of the most beloved stars of The Walking Dead was Scott Wilson. Joining the series in its second season as Hershel Greene, Wilson had become a fan favorite early into his run on the show. Hershel served as the moral compass of the group during their stay in the prison, one of the show’s most iconic and memorable locations. The character met his end in season 5, and even with the series going on to last eleven seasons, Hershel’s demise remains one of the saddest moments of the show.
While Wilson was written out of The Walking Dead in 2014, he was a constant presence at fan conventions and would continue to remain closely associated with the show. After his death in 2018, Wilson would also posthumously appear in a scene in the episode that saw Andrew Lincoln’s exit as Rick Grimes. The veteran actor sadly passed away due to issues from leukemia, dying one day before the season 9 premiere aired.

Norman Reedus, very well known for his role as Daryl Dixon, was pretty close with Wilson after working together on The Walking Dead. For fellow Walking Dead alum Jon Bernthal’s REAL ONES podcast, Reedus reflected on his relationship with Wilson and his memory of the very last time they were together. The actor remembers razzing Wilson in a way that would make him laugh at a time when he was struggling, shortly before the end of his life. As Reedus explains:
Scott Wilson Was Beloved in the Walking Dead Family
The world of The Walking Dead will live on through its various spinoffs. This even includes a solo spinoff series for Reedus as Daryl Dixon. But even with the franchise expanding, there will always be fans who most prefer those original seasons of The Walking Dead most of all. And Wilson will always be seen as one of the show’s greatest stars, unforgettable with his performance as Hershel Greene.
It’s not yet clear when Reedus’ spinoff series will make its way to AMC.
