After the sad and incredibly depressing massacre that unfolded earlier this week at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, Disney+ added a warning to the new Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi. Per Variety, the show’s landing page featured this disclaimer when the series was first launched: “Although this fictional series is a continuation of the story from Star Wars movies filmed many years ago, some scenes may be upsetting to viewers in light of the recent tragic events. Warning: Contains violence involving children.”

The message was reportedly shortened soon afterward and now simply reads: “There are certain scenes in this fictional series that some viewers may find upsetting.”

This move follows Netflix doing something similar with Stranger Things. Netflix added a warning to the premiere episode of Stranger Things’ penultimate season. The warning will appear only for viewers in the U.S. and reads the following: “We filmed this season of Stranger Things a year ago. But given the recent tragic shooting at a school in Texas, viewers may find the opening scene of episode 1 distressing. We are deeply saddened by this unspeakable violence, and our hearts go out to every family mourning a loved one.”

In addition to the warning which is included on the first episode, “The Hellfire Club,” Netflix has also updated the descriptor of the show to read, “Warning: Contains graphic violence involving children." There was one other addition simply saying “disturbing images,” both of which were added to the show rating advisories. Stranger Things has been one of the streaming giant’s most popular shows since its inception in 2016 and has not let up off the intensity that the show brings. One of the central tenants of the show revolves around its use of the main cast, consisting mainly of young adults, in its depiction of horrific events, some of which include experimentation as is the case with Millie Bobbie Brown’s character, Eleven.

The incredibly sad and horrific shooting that left 19 children and 2 teachers dead shattered the town of Uvalde in addition to rocking the rest of the United States with the incredibly senseless violence from suspected gunman, Salvador Ramos. Netflix being sensitive to current events rightfully displayed the warning which pertains to the episodes opening first few minutes.

The scene in question (SLIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD) opens with a scene that depicts the aforementioned Eleven as well as several other children covered in blood. It isn’t a stretch at all to see that Netflix wanted to cut this off at the knees and put a warning so that someone just tuning in to be entertained isn’t caught blindsided by a creative choice the show made well in advance of the destructive and horrifying real-life events that unfolded earlier this week. The scene really is no more graphic than what you would expect from typical violence and horror that fans of the show have come to expect, but the decision was undoubtedly the correct call to make.

The first seven episodes of Stranger Things dropped on Netflix May 27th and the rest of the season will follow shortly on July 1st. Millie Bobbie Brown, David Harbour, Winona Ryder, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, and Joe Keery, reprise their roles for the acclaimed series and are joined this year by horror icon Robert Englund. The series is expected to have one more season after this before the Duffer Brothers finally finish their attention keeping saga revolving around fictional Hawkin’s Indiana.
