Star Wars fans can now mark their calendars for the premiere of the highly anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which Disney has revealed in a new poster will make its debut on May 25th. Last week, it was suggested that the series would be arriving sometime in May following a rapidly deleted tweet by Disney Streaming Enterprise Program Manager Brandon San Giovanni, which said, “Our very own Obi-Wan wi (sic) be saying “hello there,” on Disney+… May 2022.” Many fans took this as a sign the return of Ewan McGregor as the iconic Jedi Master would be taking the opportunity to tap into the May 4th “Star Wars Day,” but it looks like that has been passed on for whatever reason.

Obi-Wan Kenobi sees Ewan McGregor reprising the role of Obi-Wan for the first time since 2005’s Revenge of The Sith. Having been initially conceived as a movie that would have sat alongside the likes of Solo and Rogue One under the “A Star Wars Story” banner, when that series of films were abandoned, it looked like the story of Obi-Wan was destined to be lost forever. However, with the arrival of Disney+ and a whole new wave of Star Wars-related projects, Obi-Wan Kenobi was announced in August 2019, with McGregor confirming he would be reprising his role as the title character.
The series will be set eight years after the events of Revenge of the Sith and McGregor will not be the only one returning to the franchise after a long hiatus, as Hayden Christensen will also be back to play Darth Vader. During filming, McGregor was quoted as saying that reuniting with his former co-star was “the most beautiful thing of all,” while LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy teased that the series would feature the “rematch of the century” between the two characters, something fans have waited almost twenty years to see.
The Trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi Expected to Premiere During This Weekend’s Super Bowl
Lucasfilm
“It’s going to be awesome. It’s going to be really, really cool. Having the connective tissue between the prequels and A New Hope, and just understanding where Obi has been and what’s happening, story-wise, I think fans are going to enjoy that,” Rory Ross told SlashFilm. “It’s just going to be a really great time. I think a lot of fans are like, ‘Where’s the trailer? What’s happening?’ I think the big part of it is [Lucasfilm] is just trying to make sure that it’s as polished as possible, so that when it comes out, it’s not going to have that Game of Thrones moment, where there’s a coffee cup in the corner that they missed or something like that. It’s going to have a lot of love that’s poured into it, and it’s just going to hopefully blow people’s minds and just really enjoy seeing what’s been going on."
