The second trailer for the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+ dropped last week, and hype for the series shot sky-high. For quite some time, fans have always wanted a stand-alone Kenobi project, and their wishes have finally been granted, with the series set to premiere at the end of this month. The finer details of the project have been kept under wraps, and the trailers have finally given fans a glimpse into what they can expect from the new series. However, there is still a looming question of how the series will end.
We know that this may seem like putting the cart before the horse, and for any other franchise, it would be. The problem is that Star Wars is a vastly established universe, and Obi-Wan is one of the most fleshed-out characters in the entire galaxy. That being said, fans already know where he’s eventually going to wind up (they’ve known since 1977), but there’s also plenty of history that audiences still don’t know.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
So, with the trailer confirming that the series will take place eight years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, where exactly will the six-episode series leave off?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Prior to Star Wars: Rebels
This might seem like a given, but don’t dismiss this presumption right away. After all, there hasn’t been a confirmed second season for the Kenobi series, so the six upcoming episodes might be all that fans are getting. With that in mind, it’s still pretty safe to assume that the series will conclude prior to the events of Star Wars: Rebels. During this animated Star Wars series, Kenobi’s history is explored further during the episode where he faces off against Maul one last time.

During the episode, Obi-Wan bares a striking resemblance to the Kenobi that fans first loved back in 1977, but that Obi-Wan looks far more aged than the Kenobi that we’ve seen in the trailers for the upcoming series. Now, that doesn’t mean that Obi-Wan could purposely make himself look older by the end of the series to help disguise himself and give the impression that he’s an aged man. That said, it seems safe to say that the series won’t cover the years necessary to reach the point that we saw Obi-Wan in Rebels and that his story will conclude far before those events.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: After Solo
The standalone Solo film from the Star Wars franchise might not have been a fan favorite, but it does have two key pieces of information that help pinpoint where the Obi-Wan Kenobi series will take place in the Star Wars timeline. The first piece of information is that both projects take place eight years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, allowing fans and audiences to properly understand where precisely the galaxy stands regarding the Galactic Empire taking over (as long as they saw Solo).
The second piece of information is more dramatic and has fans hoping/praying for a cameo appearance from the one and only Maul. During the Solo film, the infamous former Sith makes an appearance via hologram and is set up perfectly for a sequel appearance. Given the history between Kenobi and Maul, it only makes sense to bring him in. Maul could easily be a potential antagonist, but his character could be explored even further if he somehow becomes an ally to Obi-Wan if he needs help against Vader and the Inquisitors. Maul being tossed aside by Palpatine was because Palpatine insisted there could never be more than two Sith – that rule clearly didn’t apply to the Inquisitors, so it wouldn’t be hard to imagine Maul having some unfinished business with the Jedi Hunters.
What About the Other Obi-Wan Kenobi Characters?
While Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) will rightfully be the star of his own series, it would be irresponsible to forget about the plethora of other confirmed characters in the show and where their futures could potentially lead them. After all, one of the most hyped aspects of the show is that Hayden Christensen is returning for the role of Darth Vader and will square off against his former master. We know that Vader will survive the series and go on to kill Kenobi later on in the future, but what does that mean about the time in between? In the same way that a lot of Kenobi’s history hasn’t been explored, Vader has some gaps in his story.

There haven’t been too many other confirmed characters for the show, but what we’ve seen from the trailers has assured us that some Inquisitors will be making appearances, as well as a young Luke Skywalker and his Uncle. But, again, we know what happens to those characters in the future with little about the story in between. Wherever the series decides to leave off, it’s certainly hopeful that the creators will do the show justice and make Star Wars fans jubilant to see some of their favorite characters back on screen.
