It seems that the rumored Ocean’s Eleven outing led by Academy Award nominees Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling is indeed going ahead – and will in fact be a remake of the 1960s original starring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., and the rest of the Rat Pack. According to a listing on the official site for the Film & Television Industry Alliance, the “Untitled Ocean’s Eleven Prequel” will begin shooting on March 06, 2023.
“Remake of the original Ocean’s Eleven that is set in Europe in the 1960s starring Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie,” the listing reads, before confirming that Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and Bombshell director Jay Roach will direct from a script written by Carrie Solomon.

Rumors surrounding the Ocean’s Eleven project first began circulating last year, with reports claiming that Warner Bros. plans for the new outing to be a major tentpole project and part of the new strategy to focus on and create big-budget, star-studded cinema releases.
Released in 1960 and directed by Lewis Milestone, the original Ocean’s 11 is led by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop and follows the gang as they plan a series of robberies in Las Vegas. Receiving mixed reviews from critics despite its sheer star power, Ocean’s Eleven was remade with a modern setting in 2001 by director Steven Soderbergh who brings together one of the most star-studded casts of all time in George Clooney, Matt Damon, Andy García, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, Elliott Gould, Bernie Mac, Qin Shaobo, and Carl Reiner.
The remake was hugely well-received, leading to several (lesser) sequels. While it sounds like Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling will carve out their own Ocean’s Eleven legacy separate from the Clooney crew, the idea of the two hugely talented actors playing master thieves during the swinging sixties is surely more than enough to ensure the remake will be a big hit.
