Olivia Wilde has been at the center of the Don’t Worry Darling controversy from the very start. In 2020, it was announced Harry Styles would be joining the cast, replacing Shia LaBeouf. Earlier this month, conflicting reports between Wilde and LaBeouf surfaced, with Wilde claiming she fired the actor. In contrast, LaBeouf claims he quit, with a video captured of Wilde as she pleads for the actor to return to the project.
In addition, rumors of a relationship between Styles and Wilde began to heat up as they were pictured holding hands at the beginning of 2021, leading to a rift between the Don’t Worry Darling director and actor and co-star Florence Pugh. Fans began to notice Pugh’s lack of involvement with the promotion of the film and no interaction with Wilde’s social media posts, and the rumors of their feud reached new heights.

Now, rumors of a pay gap, custody papers being served to Wilde at CinemaCon, and awkward tension at the Venice Film Festival only helped to fuel the fire for the behind-the-scenes drama of Don’t Worry Darling. In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Wilde seeks to clear the air before the release of her anticipated film. She tells the publication Pugh “fulfilled every expectation I had of her.”
Olivia Wilde Calls The Idea she Left Jason Sudeikis for Harry Styles Completely Inaccurate

Although there’s been rampant speculation regarding the timeline of Olivia Wilde’s split with Jason Sudeikis and her new relationship with Harry Styles, the Don’t Worry Darling director is hoping to put the rumors to rest. Sudeikis initially said they split in November 2020, while Styles and Wilde were seen together two months later. This led to the idea that the relationships may have overlapped, which Wilde vehemently denies to Vanity Fair.
“Florence is one of the most in-demand actresses in the universe. She’s on set on Dune. I gather that some people expect for her to be engaging more on social media. I didn’t hire her to post. I hired her to act. She fulfilled every single expectation I had of her. That’s all that matters to me. Florence’s performance in the film is astounding. It’s just baffling to me that the media would rather focus on baseless rumors and gossip, thereby overshadowing her profound talent. She deserves more than that. As does the movie, and everyone who worked so hard on it.”
She continues, saying the rumors are affecting her children.
“The complete horses***t idea that I left Jason for Harry is completely inaccurate. Our relationship was over long before I met Harry. Like any relationship that ends, it doesn’t end overnight”
Don’t Worry Darling is nearly ready for release, arriving in theaters later this month on Sept. 23. Following the film’s premiere, the drama and rumors surrounding Wilde, LaBeouf, Pugh, Styles, and Sudeikis should begin to die down. But, until then, don’t be surprised if another headline featuring the cast makes its way into the news cycle.
“But, yeah, I don’t understand the need to create false narratives and drama around this kind of stuff. It’s like, haven’t the kids been through enough?”
