Harry Styles has been a global icon since One Direction was formed in 2010, and his skill as an actor is only growing stronger. He’s set to star in Don’t Worry Darling, arriving in September, and his co-star Olivia Wilde was mesmerized by his performance. The film follows a 1950s housewife living with her husband in a utopian experimental community. When she begins to worry that his glamorous company may be hiding disturbing secrets, things take a turn for the worst.
Florence Pugh, Chris Pine, Kate Berlant, Gemma Chan, Nick Kroll, and Timothy Simons will star alongside Wilde and Styles. Wilde will also helm the film, with Katie Silberman, Carey Van Dyke, and Shane Van Dyke writing the script. During an interview with Rolling Stone, Wilde shared her praise for the musician-turned-actor, saying his performance will receive award season buzz. Wilde says one particular scene during a company gala was so fantastic that Styles ’left us all in tears.'
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
According to Wilde, co-star Chris Pine backed away, giving the moment to Styles.
“It’s a strange scene, full of fascist references, and a disturbing amount of male rage. The scene called for him to stand onstage with Frank (Chris Pine) and chant their creepy slogan, ‘Who’s world is it? Ours!’ over and over again. Dark as hell. But Harry took it to another level. He was so fully in the moment, he began screaming the lines to the crowd, in this primal roar, that was way more intense than anything we expected from the scene.
Fans eagerly anticipate the release of Don’t Worry Darling, although some are excited for the wrong reasons. Olivia Wilde’s latest directorial project is slated to arrive in theaters next month, Sept. 23.
“The camera operator followed him as he paced around the stage like a kind of wild animal. We were all gobsmacked at the monitor. I think even Harry was surprised by it. Those are the best moments for an actor - when you’re completely outside your body.”
Harry Styles Has Seen Success in Hollywood
Although his experience is limited, the general reception of Harry Styles’s acting career has been good. His first feature film credit is from Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk in 2017, where Styles played Alex. His character was a soldier during WWII, with the movie following the Allied soldiers as the German Army surrounded them.
His next appearance would be a brief cameo in the Phase 4 MCU film, Eternals. During the post-credits scene, Styles was confirmed to be Eros of Titan, also known as Starfox. Although we don’t know the plans for his character within the grand scheme of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans can expect to see his return somewhere down the line.
His next feature film will be Don’t Worry Darling in September, with a quick trip back to theaters on Oct. 21 for My Policeman. Styles is set to star in the movie helmed by Michael Grandage, following Tom and Marion (Styles and Emma Corrin), whose home life is upset following the arrival of Patrick (David Dawson). Fans can check out Styles’s mesmerizing performance when Don’t Worry Darling arrives in theaters on Sept. 23.
