During Don’t Worry Darling director and star Olivia Wilde’s Warner Bros. CinemaCon presentation on April 26, 2022, an unidentified woman dropped off an envelope marked “personal and confidential.” Now, the contents of the mysterious envelope have finally been identified as custody papers from her ex-fiancé Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis, a source told E! News.
Wilde was speaking onstage at Caesars Palace’s The Colosseum in front of 4,100 people in the film industry about her upcoming New Line film Don’t Worry Darling, which takes inspiration from Inception, The Matrix, and The Truman Show, when the unscripted series of events occurred and interrupted her speech about the new project. The Life Itself actress was interrupted when an unknown woman approached from the audience to slide a manila envelope to her. Wilde asked, “This is for me?”

When the unidentifiable woman responded in the affirmative, Wilde reportedly opened the envelope immediately upon delivery and after looking at the first page of its contents, she thanked the woman and continued her presentation like a pro. Although it must have been a shock, Wilde reportedly maintained her cool. According to the source that spoke to E News!, the legal papers were to establish jurisdiction in the child custody case over Sudeikis and Wilde’s two children, Otis, 8, and Daisy, 5.
Wilde and Sudeikis have been separated since 2020. Although the couple got engaged, they never formerly got married. Wilde is now dating Eternals actor and pop icon Harry Styles, and one of the leads of Don’t Worry Darling, which comes out on September 23, 2022.

Many fans and industry magazines believed that The Last Man on Earth actor Jason Sudeikis was responsible for orchestrating how his former fiancée was served, and the actor was quick to clarify that he “had no prior knowledge” that the child custody documents would be served to Olivia Wilde during her appearance at CinemaCon on April 26, a source told Variety. According to a source close to Sudeikis:
According to the industry outlets, like Deadline, “it’s hard to think of an impromptu moment at CinemaCon involving an intrusion by an audience member with a star onstage, and this certainly raises security questions.” Thus, Variety spoke to several eyewitnesses who reported that the woman who served Wilde was credentialed by CinemaCon. In response to the incident, NATO managing director and head of CinemaCon Mitch Neuhauser told Variety, “To protect the integrity of our studio partners and the talent, we will reevaluate our security protocols. We will act accordingly because it’s the right thing to do. We want to do the safe, proper thing.”
Papers were drawn up to establish jurisdiction relating to the children of Ms. Wilde and Mr. Sudeikis. Mr. Sudeikis had no prior knowledge of the time or place that the envelope would have been delivered as this would solely be up to the process service company involved, and he would never condone her being served in such an inappropriate manner.
