The Peacock original series One of Us is Lying leaves off on a cliffhanger for the Season 2 finale, but unfortunately with the recent news of the show’s cancelation, this is one mystery that we won’t get any closure to. So, let’s speculate together about what could’ve happened in Season 3 of One of Us is Lying. It is our turn to become Murder Club and figure out what went down on graduation based on what we know so far.
Season 2 finally reveals the other half of the identity of “Simon Says” as Fiona, a new student who transferred to Bayview and befriended Jake over the summer. Together they plotted as “Simon Says” to blackmail and control the group, but after Jake’s death, Fiona is out for revenge. After she is caught by the police, Murder Club is officially disbanded and all they have left to worry about is passing their classes and graduating. Or so they thought.

The finale however reveals that graduation didn’t go down without another tragic incident. Police tape closes off a crime scene, and we see a trophy covered in blood. As the police photograph the scene and gather blood samples and evidence, they find a necklace that belonged to one of our main characters, Bronwyn Rojas. This necklace was recently gifted to her by her boyfriend Nate and its discovery begs the question: what could’ve happened to Bronwyn?
Is Bronwyn Dead?

Of course, the first thing that’ll be on everyone’s mind is what happened at graduation. Did something happen to Bronwyn? Was she attacked? Is she dead or injured? Or perhaps she was the perpetrator rather than the victim and if that’s the case, then who would she have hurt?
Season 3 likely would’ve revolved around whatever happened at graduation and if we were to entertain the possibility that Bronwyn was dead or seriously injured, then we most definitely would’ve seen Murder Club reunite to solve the case. Especially since this happened to one of their own this time.
Another murder board could’ve revealed a list of potential suspects including Fiona and Cole. If Fiona were out on bail while awaiting her trial, it is possible that she went after Bronwyn in an attempt to finish what she started. Although this possibility seems unlikely, she also could’ve blackmailed someone else into doing it for her.
Jake’s older brother Cole is also a possible suspect. Desperate to protect his brother’s secrets, he might have wanted to send a message to Murder Club to stop them from digging into Jake’s past, especially his time in rehab. Or maybe he was worried about what they already knew and went so far as to confront Bronwyn about it. Cole also could’ve been working with Fiona, or perhaps he was another victim of her manipulation.
However, if Bronwyn was in fact the perpetrator in this situation, we would wonder why? Was someone else blackmailing her or threatening her friends or her family? What would have provoked Bronwyn to lash out at someone? Could it have been in self-defense? Regardless, during the struggle it seems that her necklace was pulled off and left behind at the scene of the crime, linking her to what happened on graduation. There is also a possibility that the necklace was planted there to frame her for something that she wasn’t directly involved in.
Could We Have Seen the Return of Simon Says?
Peacock/NBC Universal
A major plot twist could’ve revealed that it was in fact Bronwyn’s little sister Maeve who was behind the incident at graduation. The sisters left off on bad terms by the end of Season 2, with Bronwyn angry and hurt by Maeve’s betrayal. Perhaps Maeve could’ve even taken over as the new “Simon Says,” given her technological proficiency and her previous relationship with Simon. Although Maeve only betrayed the group to save their lives, which makes it unlikely that she wanted to truly hurt or even kill Bronwyn.
But perhaps she wanted to prove a point to Murder Club that her voice counted. Despite her involvement and contribution to Murder Club, she was often overlooked, excluded, and her efforts went without appreciation. Unable to regain favor from either Bronwyn or Janae after her betrayal, Maeve might have been desperate enough to bring “Simon Says” back for the third season. Both for a little revenge and to earn some respect from the group. However, we don’t think Maeve would’ve had any malicious intentions towards Bronwyn and something must’ve gotten out of hand for things to have gone so awry by graduation.
Did They Get Away with Murder?
Murder Club certainly lived up to their name when Addy shot Jake and killed him. Although this was done in self-defense, these unlikely friends worked together to cover up the murder rather than going to the police about it. The events of the second season revolved around them trying to get away with Jake’s murder and avoid getting caught. Although at one point they were ready to confess, they ended up framing Fiona for both Jake and Giselle’s death. And with Vanessa’s help, they hoped to clear TJ of suspicion and get him released.
Had the show been renewed for the third season, we could’ve seen the police uncover evidence that pointed at someone else being involved in Jake’s death. The detective on his case was always suspicious of the group and although it seems their plan to frame Fiona worked, especially since she was caught stabbing Bronwyn, they are not free and clear yet until the investigation has been concluded.
Especially if Fiona can provide evidence that wasn’t revealed in Season 2 that connects one or more of them to Jake’s murder. They will have Fiona’s testimony of what really happened, but without proof, it would just be the ramblings of a guilty woman. Until her trial has concluded, Murder Club wouldn’t be able to say for certain that they got away with Jake’s murder. And if they did, it was all thanks to Maeve who was able to get Fiona’s fingerprints on the gun and convince her to erase the video evidence of them in the woods together the night of Jake’s murder.
