After another successful season’s arrival, Hulu wants more of Only Murders in the Building. Per Deadline, Hulu has officially renewed the show for season 3. The news is not particularly surprising, given how well-received both seasons have been with fans and critics alike, but it’s exciting nonetheless to know that the new season is officially in the works.

“Only Murders in the Building is the true crown jewel of our slate,” Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment President Craig Erwich said in a statement. “Its appeal across generations, the intersection of humor and heart, and its truly original approach are a hallmark of and testament to Dan, John, Steve, Marty, and Selena’s work. We are grateful to be able to continue telling the stories of Charles, Oliver and Mabel to viewers that have consistently shown us they crave more of this story.”

The show stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. Cara Delevingne was also featured as a new main cast member for season 2. It is created by Martin and John Hoffman (Grace & Frankie), who also serve as writers. Martin also executive produces with Short, Gomez, Dan Fogelman, and Jess Rosenthal.

Only Murders in the Building was a hit from the start, debuting as the most-watched comedy premiere in the history of Hulu. It wasn’t long after before it was also named as the most-watched comedy series ever on the streaming platform. The show is also known for its quality, which includes earning perfect 100% scores for both its first and second seasons.

Selena Gomez Had Been Teasing a Third Season

This must be great news for Selena Gomez who had made it clear she wanted to return for a third season. With a TikTok post, she revealed a video of herself toasting with Martin Short and Steve Martin with the latter insinuating that they were going “on to a great season 3.” Gomez remarked that this would “hopefully” really happen, as the renewal wasn’t official at that point. She also hinted at a third season in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“I finished season 2, I did my cooking show, and now I’m gonna be in the studio until season 3," Gomez said. Clearly, the cast was hopeful, and now the news is official.

Only Murders in the Building is streaming on Hulu. Season 3 does not yet have a premiere date.
