The upcoming Orphan Black sequel series has finally found its writer. Anna Fishko is set to serve as both a writer and executive producer for the project. Variety was the first outlet to report the news. A writer’s room for the TV show is currently open. However, specific details are unknown regarding the exact plot.
In the age of nostalgia, many classic shows are getting reboots. Instead of being a reboot, the new series will act as a sequel, set in the same universe as the original. The project was announced back in 2019. Unlike the first production, which aired on BBC America in the United States, the new installment will air on AMC. Boat Rocker Studios, which is a division of Boat Rocker Media, will produce the show.
The New Series Will Act As A Sequel, Set In The Same Universe As The Original
Orphan Black was created by John Fawcett and Graeme Manson. Temple Street Productions produced the series. The show debuted in 2013 and lasted five seasons movieweb.com/orphan-black-season-5-trailer/ on BBC America. She-Hulk star Tatiana Maslany starred as a woman who learns that she is a clone and that someone wants to kill her and her clone “sisters.” Given that she played a clone, the actress had to take on the roles of multiple characters.
Supporting cast members included Dylan Bruce, Jordan Gavaris, Kevin Hanchard, Michael Mando, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Evelyne Brochu, Ari Millen, Kristian Bruun, and Josh Vokey. It is unknown whether any of the characters in the original will appear in the sequel. With the new installment taking place in the same world as the first, the possibility exists for some to show up. No actors are confirmed to appear in the sequel series at this time.
Maslany’s performance, as well as the show itself, received widespread critical acclaim. She earned three Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe nomination throught the series’ run. Eventually, she finally won the Emmy for Best Actress in a Drama Series in 2016. She also received two Critics’ Choice Awards, and one additional nomination. As for the show, the first season alone has an approval rating of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. The consensus for the website reads, “Orphan Black is a wild science fiction ride that incorporates dramatic sensibilities which can turn from suspenseful to light at a moment’s notice.”
In 2013, the show won a Peabody Award. Given that Orphan Black was a Canadian production, it was nominated for, and won, multiple Canadian Screen Awards. Other prizes include one TCA Award and another nomination, as well as two Satellite Award nominations.
A release date for the sequel to Orphan Black has not been announced.
