The Outlander prequel series is officially moving forward at Starz. On Thursday, it was reported by Variety that Starz has put in the series order for Outlander: Blood of My Blood, a new show that serves as a prequel to the original Outlander. The new series is said to explore the love story between Jamie Fraser’s parents, serving as the Outlander version of How I Met Your Mother.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood is executive produced by Outlander EP and showrunner Matthew B. Roberts alongside Outlander series creator Ronald D. Moore and Maril Davis for Tall Ship Productions. Original author Diana Gabaldon is also serving as a consultant. The project is in development at Sony Pictures Television.

Season 6 of Outlander wrapped up on Starz in May, though it was the shortest of the series at only eight episodes. The series will come back with a season that’s twice as long, as season 7 will consist of 16 episodes. Season 7 is based on the Outlander book An Echo in the Bone but doesn’t yet have a premiere date.
Outlander tells the story of a woman who time travels to a time period from the distant past where she meets the love of her life and gets involved in the Jacobite rising of 1745. The show stars Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan with season 6 cast members including Chris Larkin, Ned Dennehy, Mark Lewis Jones, Glen Gould, Simon R. Baker, and Gail Maurice.
