Outlander is based on a series of popular books of the same name by author Diana Gabaldon. The TV show stars actress Caitríona Balfe as Claire Fraser and actor Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser.
The series follows Claire Randall, a married war nurse from 1945 who, after being inexplicably transported back in time to the year 1743, suddenly finds herself thrust into an unfamiliar world where her life is in danger. Claire’s heart is initially torn between two incredibly different men before she is forced to marry Jamie, a gallant and handsome Scottish warrior. Outlander weaves romance, sci-fi, action, and history into one epic saga.

While the unfortunate news that Outlander will end with season 8 is quite sad for viewers, fans can still look forward to the upcoming prequel.
According to a report by Variety, Outlander will continue but with a different premise and actors in the starring roles. The title will be Outlander: Blood of My Blood. The story written by the author of the Outlander series, Diana Gabaldon, will tell the romantic tale between Jamie Fraser’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, while also concentrating on Jamie’s earliest years but told from his parents’ viewpoints.
The series has reportedly been in development since August 2022. It will consist of ten episodes per season. Ronald D. Moore, who developed Outlander for the small screen, is returning to the series. Matthew B. Roberts is also the new series co-writer and executive producer. Regarding his involvement in Outlander: Blood of My Blood, Roberts stated,
Additional details about Outlander: Blood of My Blood have yet to be announced, including who will star in the series and its official air date. But for now, fans can look forward to the continuation of Outlander for the time being.
“Outlander: Blood of My Blood is, at its heart, a love story. It will explore what lengths a person will go to find love in a time when love is considered a luxury and when marriages are made strategically, often for political or financial gain. The title is a nod to Jamie Fraser’s marriage vow to Claire and there will be several names and faces that ‘Outlander’ fans will know and recognize. Jamie and Claire’s TV story may be coming to an end with season eight, but Diana is continuing on with their literary journey in her wonderful book series and is working diligently on book ten. With Jamie and Claire, and now Brian and Ellen, there is still so much more to come in the ‘Outlander’ universe, and we cannot wait to continue sharing these stories with our dedicated fans.”
