On Friday, April 29, Netflix will release the final seven episodes of Ozark Season 4. It follows Marty and Wendy Byrde, who relocated to the Ozarks area from Chicago to funnel money for a crime syndicate and ended up at the center of a tussle involving different gangs, the FBI, the Kansas City mobsters, local politicians, a drug company, and a slew of other players. As the hit show progresses, things continue to unravel into an explosive narrative of murder, deception, and a ruthless criminal world. But the couple is doing it all while attempting to maintain their marriage and make a living.

Ozark has it all: suspenseful drama, great acting, startling deaths, sweeping dialogue, dark comedy, well-placed mysteries and recollections, and plenty of tension to keep viewers hooked. Ozark is the type of show that requires complete concentration from the audience, which is a good thing, given that most folks could use a break from the world recently.

If viewers enjoyed Ozark, they will most likely want to watch something similar. Fortunately, there are a lot of series out there that are comparable to the Netflix show, and some even have the same actors. Here are some choices for anyone looking for a series like Ozark, or at least to keep them occupied until part two of Season 4 and its finale are released.

8 Breaking Bad

     AMC

Ozark drew similarities to Breaking Bad almost immediately after its premiere, which is very reasonable. They both revolve around seemingly ordinary characters who are forced into the criminal world. Walter White, a middle-aged family man and chemistry instructor, develops cancer and cannot pay his medical expenditures.

When he runs into an old pupil who is struggling but has connections in the drug world, he sees an opportunity to create and sell the finest methamphetamine the US drug industry has ever seen. One question that is often asked is, is the series based on true stories? The answer is no, it is purely a work of fiction, and without a doubt, one of the best television series of all time, navigating five extremely rich seasons with great imagination.

7 Bloodline

     Netflix

Stunning aerial views of the Missouri Ozarks appear in several transitional shots throughout Ozark. With its backdrop in the Florida Keys, another Netflix original, Bloodline, attempts something identical. The show does for Florida what Ozark does for Missouri and the Lake of the Ozarks.

The Rayburn family is at the center of Bloodline, and they are a bit problematic, to say the least. Tensions in the family rise once one of the sons comes back home, and numerous secrets are uncovered. It’s a dark family drama starring Ben Mendelsohn, Linda Cardellini, and Kyle Chandler, who give outstanding performances. Even if the finale is controversial for certain fans, the journey this series takes viewers on is worthwhile for the extremely impressive ensemble and their incredible acting.

6 Narcos

If people are looking for more of the vicious cartel storylines and murders in Ozark, then Narcos on Netflix has enough of it. The DEA’s dismantling of Pablo Escobar, the iconic Medellín cartel boss, and the world’s biggest cocaine dealer are the subject of the first chapter of the instant classic Narcos, which premiered in 2015.

Narcos: Mexico, which may be even better than the actual Narcos and chronicles the drug trade in Mexico and the Guadalajara organization in the 1980s. Narcos is a combination of fiction and true events, and despite mining a lot of historical details for narrative background, it is nonetheless a terrific crime thriller.

5 The Outsider

     HBO

Ozark’s excellence is largely down to its directing, particularly that of Jason Bateman. In 2019, Bateman transferred his filmmaking skills to HBO, directing and starring in The Outsider. The series, which is one of the best recent Stephen King adaptations, swiftly incorporates otherworldly elements into its plot, but the emotional instability, intermittent blue tinge, and Bateman’s excellent acting are all distinctly Ozarkian.

4 Queen Of The South

     NBCUniversal Television Distribution

Inspired by a melodrama, Jonathan Jakubowicz directed Queen of the South in the USA, which follows Teresa Mendoza portrayed by Alice Braga, a destitute Mexican lady who goes on the trail after her fiancé, a high-ranking leader of a drug cartel, is assassinated.

She finally ends up in Dallas, where she builds her own large drug empire and becomes one of the richest women in the nation. But, as the saying goes, more money means more difficulties.

3 Peaky Blinders

     BBC Studios

Peaky Blinders is a far more action-packed series than the slow-burning Ozark, but that doesn’t mean followers of Ozark won’t enjoy it. The key characters, like Marty Byrde, have to deal with political concerns while trying to impress other individuals at the same time. The show also features well-written, powerful female characters, a candid look at the effects of war on Britain’s young men, and a career-best portrayal by The Dark Knight Rises star Cillian Murphy in the main role. Despite the show ending soon, fans have good news, with a movie starting production in 2023.

2 Boardwalk Empire

Organized crime groups like cartels and mobs play a large role in Ozark. Viewers of the show would definitely want to watch HBO’s Boardwalk Empire if they’d like to see a show about the emergence of organized crime throughout history. Boardwalk Empire is a period drama that incorporates real-life events and people. It’s about Enoch “Nucky” Thompson, who is a fictitious county accountant turned bootlegger during the Depression. Throughout the five-season duration of the show, Nucky meets a slew of prominent gangsters, including Lucky Luciano, Arnold Rothstein, and Al Capone.

1 House Of Cards

Although House Of Cards isn’t really about financial fraud or the prospect of a cartel killing one individual, it is a show wrapped in secret and intrigue, with its immensely dynamic array of characters crafting a complicated tale full of startling plot twists. It flows with a similar slow-burn intensity as Ozark.

The conversation in the TV series is also fantastic. Ozark has some fantastic exchanges between the actors, while House Of Cards relies on it, with some incredibly riveting dialogue and superb performances throughout the program.
