Sad news has just broken as it’s been reported that Melinda Dillon has died. THR reports that Dillon, known for her roles in films like A Christmas Story and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, died on Jan. 9, though the news of her death hadn’t been shared by her family until now. No other details about her passing, such as a cause of death, were revealed. She was 83 years old....

(MGM) and Apple annnounced that MGM is now offering titles from its prestigious catalog of feature films for purchase and download on the iTunes Store (www.itunes.com). Beginning today, iTunes customers will be able to purchase legendary films such as Dances With Wolves, “Mad Max, The Great Train Robbery and Rocky, with other titles to be added in the coming weeks. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today awarded NBCUniversal (NBCU) the broadcast rights in the USA for the Olympic Games through to 2032. NBCU has acquired the broadcast rights across all media platforms, including free-to-air television, subscription television, internet and mobile. The agreement from 2021 to 2032 is valued at USD 7.65 billion, plus an additional USD 100 million signing bonus to be used for the promotion of Olympism and the Olympic values between 2015 and 2020....

New Line picked up screen rights to Rock of Ages, a stage musical that does with ’80s rock anthems what Mamma Mia! did with Abba tunes, according to Variety. Chris D’Arienzo, who wrote the book for the Off Broadway tuner, will write the screenplay and direct the film. The storyline takes place at a Sunset Strip rock club called Rock of Ages, where a man and woman fall in love but get torn apart by the rock lifestyle....

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios have entered into a distribution agreement for the next round of Marvel pictures. The story was originally broken by Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood before an announcement was made by Paramount later today. The announcement reads: After the success Paramount had with distributing Iron Man for Marvel, this deal makes sense for both parties. Marvel had two solid successes with Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, so this is a relatively low-risk move for Paramount, and it has to be good for Marvel to know their distributor this far in advance....
While fans may be happy that they don’t have to wait so long for G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra to hit DVD shelves, one group isn’t happy at all about it: theater owners. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount’s early DVD release of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra on November 3, just 88 days after its theatrical opening, received angered response from the National Association of Theater Owners (NATO)....
Netflix has just dropped the first trailer for Persuasion starring Dakota Johnson, the upcoming film that is an adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel of the same name. Persuasion was published in 1817, six months after the author’s death. Johnson plays heroine Anne Elliot, who pines for former flame Frederick Wentworth, played by Cosmo Jarvis, who didn’t gain her family’s approval due to his rank in society. In the newly released trailer, we see a distressed Anne discussing how she was persuaded to part with Frederick....
