HBO Max’s series Pennyworth caused quite a stir on its debut (on Epix) in 2019. Unafraid to strike out on its own, the series stars Jack Bannon as a wise-cracking, hard-as-nails Alfred Pennyworth, a former soldier with the SAS who starts his own personal security business and runs foul of crime lords – and fascists – working out of London’s East End. The mix of post-war gangland London, alternate history, and 1960s glamour – think The Krays crossed with 1984, with a dash of flyblown Dior and Chanel and a sprinkling of sex scenes thrown in – with the Batman-verse is highly unusual....

The Pixar Blog is reporting that the Disney/Pixar production of Newt is cancelled, according to Walt Disney Company archivist Dave Smith. Smith was actually responding to a question over why Newt had been deleted from the latest supplement to his book “Disney A to Z.” It seems that there were rumblings that this film might not make it. This past February Disney Legend Floyd Norman stated that “Newt is dead”....

Disney recently hosted a press conference for Disenchanted, which is available for streaming now exclusively on Disney+. Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, Idina Menzel, and Gabriella Baldacchino each attended the event, moderated by People Magazine’s Kara Warner. During the press conference, each cast member revealed insight into the production of Disenchanted as well as returning to their beloved characters several years later. DreamWorks Animation is retooling it’s plans for Puss ’n Boots. In a story from Variety, the Shrek spinoff was thought to be going straight-to-DVD, but it looks like it actually will be released theatrically in 2010. According to CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg the decision to bring out the film out theatrically was due in part “to a crowded direct-to-video market” and the cost of making a film that could possibly turnoff Shrek fans....

Seminal director Quentin Tarantino is no fan of the modern era of movies. And he hates the 1980s and 1950s too. Partway through season 5, Riverdale has officially gotten the renewal for a sixth season at The CW. This week, it was announced that the network was getting a head start on their 2021-2022 slate with a slew of early renewals for several of their ongoing television shows. Although a time jump will be featured in Riverdale season 5, that doesn’t mean the end of the series is coming soon, as the show was included with The CW’s list of renewals....

Tim Burton will direct, and Robert Downey Jr. will star in, Tim Burton’s Pinocchio, a live-action retelling of the timeless fairytale. Robert Downey Jr. is set to play Geppetto, a woodcarver who creates a puppet that comes to life only to dream of becoming a real boy. Tim Burton’s Pinocchio will actually follow Geppetto’s quest to find his missing puppet, offering the flipside to this oft told tale. Bryan Fuller is responsible for the screenplay....

Mark Millar’s Wanted is about to hit the theatres, but the writer is already busy working on his next project - adapting the film version of Kick-Ass, based on the comic of the same name. Millar talked to Comic Book Resources about the future of the film, including touching on the question of casting. Millar wouldn’t directly state who was going to be featured in the film, but did state that casting had been completed....

Marry Me hits every high note as a fantasy romance and musical that will leave you swooning. Jennifer Lopez shines as an embarrassed and heartbroken superstar singer who marries a random fan at a concert. Owen Wilson plays the surprise spouse with a down-to-earth affability and comically realistic reactions. The film is primarily a showcase for Lopez’s immense talent, but smartly never lets her overshadow Wilson. It succeeds in pairing a seemingly average guy with an impossibly attractive and famous woman....

We are fast approaching a return to Wakanda in the MCU, with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever set to round out Marvel’s 2022 cinema releases in November. The Black Panther sequel is something of a bittersweet entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as it is the first movie based in Wakanda to arrive following the death of Chadwick Boseman back in 2020. While the movie is being called an “outpouring of love” for Boseman and his character, T’Challa, star Martin Freeman told Collider that working on the film without the late actor was “odd....

Marvel Entertainment reported today operating results for the fourth quarter. Marvel’s Chairman, Morton Handel, commented, “We are pleased with the financial results for 2005 and the strong cash flows generated by our operations. Several watershed events in 2005 have set the stage for the next phase of Marvel’s growth. We announced a slate of feature films to be produced by Marvel using non-recourse, third-party debt financing. We are actively working on scripts for Captain America, Ant-Man and Nick Fury and expect that one of these could be our first film in production next year with a release in 2008....
