Luc Besson is reconsidering returning behind the camera despite a recent interview announcing his retirement from directing, according to Production Weekly. If the adaptation of his novel “Arthur and the Minimoys” finds an audience he will begin work on adapting the second book, “Arthur And The Forbidden City,” for the big screen with a shooting start date as early as June. The film will be released on December 13 in France and stars the voices of Madonna, Snoop Dogg and David Bowie for the English version and Mylene Farmer, Alain Bashung and Marc Lavoine in the French version....

Plot details have now seemingly been revealed regarding Sony’s next foray into the Spider-Verse, Madame Web. Starring Dakota Johnson as the titular Marvel character, a new report from Deadline has revealed that Madame Web will be an origin story, focussing on a younger version of the character, who is traditionally depicted in the comics as an old woman. While these, somewhat vague, plot details have now emerged, there is still a lot of mystery surrounding Madame Web....

Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they have acquired all North American, Latin American and Eastern European rights to Jacques Audiard’s (A Prophet) Rust and Bone from Hengameh Panahi of Celluloid Dreams. The film recently wrapped production. The film was co-written by Jacques Audiard and Thomas Bidegain and adapted from the acclaimed book of short stories by Craig Davidson. Just as he did with the prison genre in A Prophet, Jacques Audiard will renew the love story with Rust and Bone, his stirring new film filled with romance and suspense....

Marvel Entertainment is looking to go global, and bring traditionally Western superheroes to all corners of the globe. To that end, as they announced on Marvel.com, Marvel announced the formation of an International Advisory Board comprised of business leaders from key international growth markets. The goal of this board will be to work with company leadership to examine ways to expand Marvel’s penetration into international markets. The board is chaired by James Halpin, who has been a Marvel director ever since March 1995....

The Marvel Studios calendar is filled through July 2023, but possibly the most anticipated upcoming MCU film is one that’s premiering further down the line. Kevin Feige announced in December 2020 that a Fantastic Four feature was in development, and would be directed by the architect of the MCU Spider-Man trilogy Jon Watts. However, Watts unexpectedly announced earlier this year that he was stepping away from the project, setting back Marvel’s plans for the film....

Masters of the Universe: Revelation is set to continue the unresolved storylines of the 1980s classic Mattel toy era cartoon, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Kevin Smith is onboard as executive producer and showrunner of Masters of the Universe: Revelation. Writers include Eric Carrasco (Supergirl), Tim Sheridan (Reign of the Supermen), Diya Mishra (Magic the Gathering) and Marc Bernardin (Alphas)....

FremantleMedia has acquired the rights to author Neil Gaiman’s critically-acclaimed 2001 novel American Gods for a new TV adaptation. The book was previously set up at Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman’s Playtone Productions and HBO back in 2011, although the adaptation never moved forward. Neil Gaiman will executive produce the small screen adaptation, although it isn’t known if a writer has been hired to work on the script yet. American Gods is set in a world where a war is brewing between traditional and mythological gods and a new group of deities who reflect modern society’s love of money, celebrities, technology, media and drugs....

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings has announced the separation of their DVD and video streaming services following the steep drop in Netflix’s stock price last week. Their DVD-by-mail service will now be called Qwikster, and the streaming service will maintain the Netflix brand. Customers will still be able to subscribe to both, however two sites will not be integrated anymore. Qwikster will now offer video game rentals through the mail, which has been a requested feature on Netflix for years....

One of the biggest names of the late ’90s and early ’00s, Lindsay Lohan, is continuing her career comeback with a new Netflix film in the works. Irish Wish, directed by Janeen Damian, is set for a release next year. Following a series of career setbacks and addiction struggles, Lohan’s career has been seeing a steady rebound. She will return to the big screen in her first starring role in more than a decade with Netflix’s Falling for Christmas, the directorial debut of Janeen Damian set for a November 2022 release....

Resident Evil, the iconic apocalyptic video game series by Capcom, is officially going to be hitting our (small) screens on Netflix with a brand-new storyline. Actor Paul Walker is in talks to star in Brick Mansions, EuropaCorp’s American remake of the action-thriller District B13. Paul Walker will likely star alongside David Belle, who is credited with inventing the sport of parkour. David Belle starred in District B13 and its sequel, District 13 Ultimatum, and it is said that writer-producer Luc Besson wouldn’t move forward on the remake unless David Belle was involved. The history of Piranha is almost hilarious. Actually, no, not Piranha, the 1978 Joe Dante film that was, oddly enough, the screenwriting debut of auteur John Sayles, or even Piranha 2, the 1981 sequel which served as the feature directorial debut of this filmmaker named James Cameron. That history is humorous in its own ways, but the history I’m referring to is the history of Piranha 3D, the new Alexandre Aja remake that already has a history of being banned well before the film even hit theaters....
