Legendary actor Michael J. Fox was met with a great response at Sundance upon the screening of his new documentary. Called Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie, the doc focuses on the life and career of the Back to the Future star and Parkinson’s research advocate. Per Variety, Fox and director Davis Guggenheim were present to speak about the film with those in attendance, but not before Fox was met with an emotional standing ovation upon stepping out onto the stage....

The Wagner/Cuban Companies’ Magnet Releasing announced today that it has acquired US rights to the sci-fi/action epic, Mutant Chronicles. The film stars Thomas Jane (The Mist), Ron Perlman (Hellboy films), Devon Aoki (Sin City) and John Malkovich. An Edward R. Pressman production, Mutant Chronicles was directed by Simon Hunter and written by Philip Eisner. The film is based on the classic role-playing game that has already inspired card games, video games, novels, comic books and collectible miniatures....

Netflix has released the official trailer for Break Point. Consisting of ten overall episodes, the first five installments of the series will be premiering on the streaming platform on Jan. 13 with the back half of the season coming this summer. Pirate Gold of Adak Island is a new Netflix reality show which follows a group of people on the hunt for a lost hoard of pirate treasure in Alaska. The gold, believed to amount to more than $350 million in today’s currency, is supposed to have been buried by a Russian pirate named Gregory Dwargstof in the late 1800s. In the show, a group of people, including the mayor of Adak, two construction workers, a scientist, and a technology expert, search for the lost gold in the town of Adak, where pieces of the treasure were discovered in the 1950s....

Mama June Shannon has been using a lot of methamphetamine. The reality star brought up her drug use in the latest episode of WE tv’s Mama June: Family in Crisis while reuniting with her estranged daughter Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon. In addition to the meth, Shannon also admitted to abusing Fioricet, a prescription pain medicine primarily used to treat tension headache symptoms, and Xanax, a medication used to treat anxiety and panic disorders....

It seems Batman’s reign atop the home video charts was a short one. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mamma Mia! bested The Dark Knight to take the top spot on the national DVD sales charts for the week ending December 21. The Dark Knight did end up doing some solid biz in second place though, amassing 85% of its first week sales in its sophomore week. The Dark Knight was also topped in the rental charts as well by another newcomer, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, although The Dark Knight was close on its heels, taking in 93% of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’s rental revenue....

We’ve got even more sad news to pass along this week as veteran actress and soap opera star Marj Dusay has passed away. Apart from her work on soap operas like Guiding Light and All My Children, Dusay is also known for her memorable roles in the original Star Trek series and the 1977 movie MacArthur. Though the circumstances of her passing aren’t clear, Dusay’s death was confirmed by her stepdaughter, Elizabeth Perine, in a Facebook post....

Mark Burnett is embarking on a new film adventure, snatching up the feature rights to the children’s fantasy book series The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, according to Variety. The first volume in author Michael Scott’s six-part series, dubbed “The Alchemyst,” will be published by Random House Children’s Books in May. The Survivor guru plans to begin talking with potential studios in the next few weeks about coming aboard to produce....
