This message can be used as a reference point in future productions, or it can be used to rip off the original work. The term “rip-off” has a bit of a negative connotation and is usually used in reference to works that don’t live up to the original and come off as unwatchable....

AppleTV+’s Loot recently completed its first season. The Maya Rudolph vehicle about a woman whose husband left him for a younger woman after she turned 50 is a relatable and well-trafficked story. Loot’s twist is that the wife has been left by a Jeff Bezos-style billionaire whom she’d supported when they were broke 20-somethings and also worked in every aspect of her husband’s business from day one until he became a multi-millionaire....

Martin Lawrence is returning as a crime-solving detective, although his latest role is far from his time as Marcus in the long-running Bad Boys franchise. This time, Lawrence will be playing Detective Jake Doyle in Mindcage, a thrilling feature film focused on a notorious serial killer and a copycat who seems one step ahead of his every move. Mindcage follows Lawrence and Melissa Roxburgh, who plays Mary Kelly, as the two work to solve a string of murders that have a chilling connection to a previous case....

The new trailer for Marvel’s anxiously awaited The Defenders is finally here, courtesy of Netflix and the San Diego Comic-Con. The first trailer for limited series debuted earlier this year and the response was unanimously positive except for one sticking point: It left the viewers wanting more and they wanted it quick. Which was a problem since the show doesn’t premiere until the middle of August. And now we seem to be in the same predicament, there’s a new awesome trailer and the show doesn’t hit Netflix until next month....

Mahershala Ali’s Blade has been an interesting production to follow, with the film reeling from behind-the-scenes drama. Director Bassam Tariq left the project at the end of September, and with a recent delay in the release date, the problems seem endless. With the report of Ali’s frustration with a 90-page screenplay, an end to the drama is not in sight. The next logical production step is finding a new director to take the reins....

MTV announced that it will introduce a new programming block for Thursday nights which will premiere on Thursday, June 15th. The new line-up will feature the return of some of MTV’s hugely successful and highly anticipated series: Making The Band 3, Run’s House and Pimp My Ride. In addition, MTV will close out the premiere of the new block with a one-hour Yo Momma special at 10:30pm. Beginning on Thursday, June 22nd viewers will see an encore airing of Jamie Kennedy’s Blowin’ Up in the 10:30pm slot....

Napoleon Dynamite star Jon Heder wants a darker sequel to the 2004 cult comedy that picks up with the characters in real time. Appearing at Pittsburgh’s Steel City Con, Heder pitched an overall idea for Napoleon Dynamite 2, which would find the title character living a dull life and no longer doing whatever he feels like he wants to do. Gosh! That darkness would come from hitting middle-age, not using any of your good skills (like nunchuck skills…bow hunting skills…computer hacking skills) and struggling to live up to the responsibilities he now has....

Though she only first appeared as a supporting cast member on Saturday Night Live last year, Iranian American comedian Nasim Pedrad has already set up her first feature film, working with producers Will Speck and Josh Gordon, the directors behind the upcoming comedy The Switch. According to Variety, Paul Giamatti is going to play Nikita Khrushchev in the HBO telepic that is presently in the early stages of development. HBO and Playtone have picked up the rights to the book K Blows Top," by Peter Carlson. It looks at Khrushchev’s 13-day visit to America in September 1959.
