Director Martin Scorsese is in talks to helm a big screen adaptation of Jo Nesbo’s bestselling mystery novel, The Snowman. The film starts in November in Oslo where the first snow of the year has fallen. Birte Becker comes home from work and praises the snowman her husband and son have made in the garden. But they haven’t made a snowman. As the family stand by the sitting room window looking out in amazement at the snowman, the son notices that it is facing the house....

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of the most successful franchises ever. Fans rush to watch the next installment before internet spoilers can ruin whatever happens. So, watching the MCU heroes come together to defeat Thanos, or whatever antagonist the film uses, has become expected. But, that may be one of its biggest problems as the franchise continues to expand. Although the movies are fun to watch individually, viewers need to understand everything else that came before, to truly understand one film....

Phase 1 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was about uniting the various heroes into a shared universe and superhero team. With Phase 2, the franchise had to show how the various heroes of the team go back to their own solo adventures after they’ve met other heroes. The sequels for Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America all dealt with the immediate aftermath of The Avengers and how the world, cosmos, and individuals react to the world-altering events....

The first trailer and promo art has debuted for Metal Hurlant Chronicles, a new series based on the Heavy Metal graphic novels. We also have promo artwork, although it isn’t clear when this will debut, and which network it will air on. There has already been two 12-episode seasons produced, debuting first in France. One of the standout sketches from Michael B. Jordan’s stint hosting Saturday Night Live on Saturday night was a parody of the “Jake from State Farm” commercials. The real advertisements feature Jake, a State Farm employee, popping up to let customers know his company will always be there for them, like a “good neighbor.” But Jake gets way too involved with one family after showing up to help them with their insurance rates, turning the spoof ad into a new take on The Hand That Rocks the Cradle....

While writer Simon Kinberg has been hired by 20th Century Fox to pen the X-Men: First Class Sequel screenplay, a follow-up to 2011’s hit franchise spin-off X-Men: First Class, we still haven’t heard too much about it. Today, Michael Fassbender spoke with IFC about his return to the character of Magneto, and how he’d like to see the role progress and mature in the future. He continued, saying that his co-star James McAvoy, who plays Magneto’s best friend and mortal enemy Charles Xavier, feels the same way about continuing on in the X-Men: First Class Sequel....

The special effects coordinator on the movie talks about all the innovative machines that were built for the film Michael Lantieri has been in the special effects biz for nearly three decades, with a resume that includes such blockbuster films as Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade, Jurassic Park(and both sequels), Minority Report and Beowulf, just to name a few. His latest film, Hotel for Dogs, which hits the shelves on DVD and Blu-ray on April 28, doesn’t feature the CGI wizardry of previous films, but features Lantieri’s handiwork in the several devices and gadgets that the actors used to care for the plethora of pooches....

Director Michael Mann is teaming up with screenwriter Sheldon Turner for the new mafia biopic Big Tuna, which could be his next project, according to Variety. The story is based on Chicago mob boss Tony Accardo and his protege, Sam Giancana, who eventually replaced him. Since Big Tuna isn’t set up at a studio yet, the director brought Sheldon Turner on board through his own development fund. Michael Mann is also circling Agincourt, based on the best-selling book by Bernard Cornwell, which tells the tale of a famous 1415 battle between England and France....

The Museum of Television & Radio announced the launch of a new DVD series featuring some of the Museum’s most popular, unique public events, where cast and creatives talk about the art and artistry behind excellent television. Kicking off this new series are Boston Legal, Desperate Housewives, and Lost, three events from the Museum’s 2005 William S. Paley Television Festival, which annually honors current and past television shows and individuals with significant television work....

As Rogue Pictures, an offshoot of Focus Features, prepares for the release of Neil Marshall’s Doomsday on Friday, Rogue Pictures strikes another deal for the writer-director’s follow-up with the horror film, Sacrilege, to be set in the Old West. According to Variety, Marshall, who wrote and directed Dog Soldiers: Fresh Meat and The Descent as well as Doomsday, grew up in England watching oaters and horror films in equal measure and dreamed of combining the genres....

At last, Netflix has finally released the very first trailer for the brand new season of Mystery Science Theater 3000! It has been a long wait but, even though this trailer is less than a minute long, it gives us every reason to think that this new batch of episodes will be worth it. It also doesn’t hurt anything that all of the episodes will be made available on the same day, so that fans can binge the entire season all at once....

No longer classified information, Nicktoons Network, Nickelodeon’s 24-hour animation network, reveals 13 original half-hour episodes of The Secret Show, it was announced today by Keith Dawkins, Vice President and General Manager of Nicktoons Network. The new series, which is packed with covert missions, layers of secrecy and original storylines, will premiere Saturday, January 20 at 8:30 p.m. (ET). The series will air regularly Saturdays at 8:30 p.m. (ET) on Nicktoons Network....

On Monday, Marvel released a brief video that confirmed Daredevil’s Deborah Ann Woll and Luke Cage’s Simone Missick will return to play Karen Page and Misty Knight, respectively, on The Defenders. That was just the first in a wave of announcements, with a new video debuting yesterday that revealed Jessica Jones’ Carrie-Anne Moss (Hogarth) and Eka Darville (Malcolm) will be back for The Defenders, along with Daredevil’s Elden Henson (Foggy). Today we have yet another video that confirms Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple, Rachael Taylor’s Trish Walker and Scott Glenn’s Stick will also be back....

Nine films will advance in the voting process in the Foreign Language Film category for the 79th Academy Awards. Sixty-one films had originally qualified in the category. We have a new trailer for NOS4A2 season 2. AMC revealed the latest look at the series ahead of its scheduled return next month. Originally, the show was set to debut its sophomore season on June 1. However, that was recently pushed back by a few weeks to June 21. In any event, we now have a much better idea of what to expect this time around, as we will be making quite the time jump, with the action moving forward by nearly a decade....

The world is just mere days away from seeing what James Gunn has up his sleeves for the Suicide Squad spin-off, Peacemaker. The titular character and his seemingly insurmountable problems, stemming from his arrested development, appears to be the secondary focus, after the whole getting the bad guys storyline. The show’s second lead, Danielle Brooks, portraying Leota Adebayo, the reluctant addition to the team, appears to have the even more challenging job, taking down the baddies and babysitting/counseling our Peacemaker man-child....

Pierce Brosnan and Amanda Seyfried are in final negotiations to star alongside Meryl Streep in the musical adaptation, Mamma Mia! for Universal Pictures and Playtone. The popular ABBA musical will be directed by Phyllida Lloyd; the story revolves around a bride-to-be and her formerly rebellious mom (Streep) who raised her on a Greek island and never disclosed the identity of her father, says The Hollywood Reporter. The bride locates three men who might be her father and invites them to her wedding; the musical features 22 ABBA songs, including “Dancing Queen,” “Take a Chance on Me” and “The Winner Takes It All....
