On Oscar® Sunday, March 5, charities in 47 cities, including the American Red Cross in New Orleans, will throw official Oscar viewing parties during the 78th Academy Awards® ceremony as part of Oscar Night America, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ grassroots outreach program. The Academy sanctions charities across the country to host glamorous Oscar viewing parties on Oscar Night with proceeds directly benefiting the charities. All parties will feature the live broadcast of the Awards Presentation, while many organizers will integrate Hollywood party elements including a red carpet for arrivals, local celebrities, photographers/paparazzi, predict-the-winner pools and entertainment....

USA Network announced today an all-star lineup of guest stars, including WWE Superstar John Cena, for the hit series Psych, premiering its fourth season this Friday, August 7th at 10/9c. The announcement was made by Jeff Wachtel, president, original programming, USA Network and co-head, original content, Universal Cable Productions. The roster of guest stars also includes such notables as James Brolin as Hank, a sheriff in an old Western town with a history of vandalism where recent sightings of the Ghost Rider have occurred; Cary Elwes as a notorious international art thief; Emmy Award-winner Christine Baranski; Sendhil Ramamurthy in a Bollywood-themed episode; and the return of Rachael Leigh Cook as Shawn’s girlfriend, Abigail....

Lionsgate has found religion! In a story from The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has some big plans “to tap into the lucrative Christian entertainment market.” The studio recently put together “a distribution agreement with Thomas Nelson Inc., making the Christian publisher the exclusive distributor of Lionsgate product in the Christian retail market.” In addition to this, Lionsgate “has acquired exclusive North American home entertainment distribution rights to three DVD documentaries based on the best-selling books by leading Christian nonfiction author Lee Strobel: The Case for Christ, The Case for a Creator and The Case for Faith....

It seems that a classic cartoon series is coming back to the airwaves and movie theaters nationwide in the very near future. The New York Times are reporting that Warner Bros. is resurrecting its Looney Tunes cartoon franchise, with both a brand new series set to debut this fall and a series of animated 3D short films coming to theaters this summer. The studio will release the first 3D short film entitled “Coyote Falls,” which will feature the classic characters Wile E....

In 2004, he co-created the show Lost alongside J.J. A new bombshell of a rumor hit the web yesterday and today, it turns out that there was no truth to the story after all. We received a statement from LucasFilm regarding the story about Red Tails that First Showing posted yesterday, saying there is no truth to the story at all. Here’s the LucasFilm statement: The original story indicated that Lucas was unhappy with director Anthony Hemmingway’s work and was going to direct reshoots of the film himself, but it seems that these reshoots are just routine....

Despite a surge of interest on Netflix, where it has held the #1 spot in the US for a few days now, and creator Jeff Rake having sold the show to NBC with a six season plan, the network has decided not renew mystery drama Manifest for a fourth season. And Netflix has declined to pick up the show for Season 4. The shocking news came practically on the deadline of the cast options being due to expire today....

Amid reports from Variety that LGBTQIA+ employees are planning in-person and virtual walkouts this week in response to The Walt Disney Company and CEO Bob Chapek’s handling of the “Don’t Say Gay Bill” in Florida, Marvel Studios posted a statement. The statement bluntly condemns the legislation as infringing on the fundamental human rights of the LGBTQ+ community. Although it’s easy to be harsh on Marvel Studios, it has done small things to move queer representation forward in genre film and television—and thanks to people like the Visionary Award honoree at the Outfest Legacy Awards, Victoria Alonso, president of physical and post-production, visual effects and animation production for Marvel Studios and many of the other talented LGBTQ+ people at the entertainment company....

Marvel’s Editor-in-Chief, Joe Quesada and writer Brian Michael Bendis had a meeting with Thor director Kenneth Branagh to discuss the film, and apparently the meeting went very well. As Quesada revealed in some back and forth messages with Bendis on Twitter, apparently Branagh understands the sensibility Marvel wants for this movie. Here’s how the conversation went: So, not a lot of details revealed, but clearly Branagh has done his homework on the background of Marvel’s version of the Norse Thunder God....

The Weinstein Company’s upcoming adaptation of the 1982 Broadway musical Nine is being written by Oscar nominated screenplay writer Michael Tolkin. According to Variety, the play itself was based on Fellini’s 8 1/2. The movie revolves around the life of famous film director Guido Contini. When he suddenly has a creative crisis, he is forced to contend with the numerous women he has in his life. Rob Marshall, who is producing the film, is committed to keeping the film rooted in the postwar cinema of Italy....

Focus Features has acquired worldwide distribution rights to Moonrise Kingdom, the new feature from two-time Academy Award nominee Wes Anderson. Indian Paintbrush is presenting the American Empirical Pictures production, which Mr. Anderson is directing from an original screenplay that he wrote with Roman Coppola. Filming has begun, and Focus Features International (FFI) will commence international sales on the title at this month’s Cannes International Film Festival. Focus CEO James Schamus made the announcement today....

Morbius was hammered with bad reviews upon its release in theaters, and Daniel Espinosa has mixed thoughts. Starring Jared Leto, the new film establishes the actor as the newest part of Sony’s Marvel Universe, which includes Tom Hardy’s Venom movies and the upcoming Kraven the Hunter. While Morbius had a pretty good weekend at the box office with its debut, critics were almost unanimous in their disdain held for the film....
