Join me in a collective gasp of shock as The Asylum puts out a movie that’s NOT based heavily on previously released work! That’s right, no cheesy knockoff this time around, just a really-loosely-based-on-a-true-story romp called Halloween Night! Nope…no cheesy knockoffs here–this is all original cheese. Well…sort of. And the flaming bag on our video store doorstep this week is the positively cheese-laden story of an asylum inmate who kills a couple guards, breaks out of prison wearing a mask, heads back to the house of his birth and goes on a murder spree back in 1982....

The Business of Being Born, a documentary about childbirth produced by and featuring Ricki Lake, has been acquired for theatrical release by Netflix’s Red Envelope and for DVD by New Line, according to Variety. The film offers harsh criticisms of the way babies are born in hospitals in America, spotlighting the high rate of Caesarian section and the health care industry’s marginalization of midwives and doulas. Several “water births,” said to be the most stress-free solution for mother and child, are shown in the film....

Robert Downey Jr. is almost done shooting The Avengers, and once that project wraps, he will turn his attention to the anticipated sequel Iron Man 3. Iron Man 3 also marks the first movie in the franchise which won’t be directed by Jon Favreau, although Robert Downey Jr. will reunite with his Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang director Shane Black....

After professing her innocence for over a year, former Fuller House star Lori Loughlin is now set to plead guilty for her alleged part in the infamous college admissions scandal of 2019. Allegedly, Loughlin and husband Mossimo Giannulli had conspired to fake their daughters’ credentials to secure their admission into the University of Southern California. Initially, Loughlin and Giannulli had pleaded not guilty, insisting that the allegations against them were illegitimate with apparent plans to take the case to trial....

Due to legal issues surrounding actress Lori Loughlin in the midst of a college admissions scandal, her character Becky Katsopolis will not be returning to Fuller House. Bad news continues to roll in for the television star, who found herself in some serious legal trouble earlier this week. Along with husband Mossimo Giannulli, Loughlin is alleged to have taken part in a bribery scheme to ensure the placement of their daughters into the University of Southern California....

FX has ordered another season of its newest critically acclaimed comedy series Louie, starring actor/comedian Louis C.K., picking up a 13-episode second season, today announced John Landgraf, President and General Manager of FX Networks. Seven all new episodes of Louie remain in season one, airing Tuesdays at 11 PM ET/PT, with the two final episodes airing back-to-back on September 7 at 11:00 PM and 11:30 PM behind the season three premier of Sons of Anarchy at 10:00 PM....

Filmmaker J.D. Dillard recently announced that his upcoming Star Wars project is no longer being developed at Lucasfilm. The movie would’ve been the most significant film for the director in his career so far. Dillard is known for his work on Sleight, the 2016 movie, following a young street magician who turns to illegal tricks after his parents’ passing. The movie received mixed reviews, though it made $4 million at the box office against a $250,000 budget....

Shout! Factory and FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) announced today a deal to bring the renowned classic animated series MASK to the home entertainment marketplace. Under its multi-year agreement with FME, Shout! Factory will be the exclusive home entertainment distributor with digital rights to the first 65 action-packed episodes of MASK (known to fans as the original series aired in 1985) in North America. The announcement was made by Shout! Factory’s founding partners Richard Foos, Bob Emmer and Garson Foos; and Jeff Siegel, FME VP of Home Entertainment, The Americas....

The new horror film M3GAN has been a big hit, overperforming at the box office and scoring high with critics to all but guarantee a sequel. While characters like Chucky and Annabelle have dominated the killer doll space in the horror genre for years, it’s clear from this success that there’s a new doll in town. What separates M3GAN from those two is that she’s powered by artificial intelligence, while most killer dolls in horror are supernatural in nature....

After last night’s Invasion crossover episode of The Flash, which brought in characters from the rest of The CW’s superhero lineup, fans are now getting ready for the fall finale, airing Tuesday, December 6. Today we have photos from the mid-season finale, entitled The Present, which doubles as the show’s holiday episode and also brings back Mark Hamill as The Trickster. As you can see in these photos, The Trickster doesn’t quite look the same, but there’s a good reason for that....

The Wagner/Cuban Company’s Magnolia Pictures announced today they have acquired US rights to Marley, the definitive documentary about legendary musician Bob Marley, directed by Academy Award-winner Kevin Macdonald (One Day in September, The Last King of Scotland). Produced by Steve Bing (Shangri-La Entertainment) and Charles Steel, and executive produced by Bob’s son Ziggy Marley and Island Records founder Chris Blackwell, Marley will have its world premiere at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival in February, and its North American premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, TX in March....

Marlon Wayans is a veteran in Hollywood, starring in countless comedies over his multi-decade-spanning career. So it’s safe to say the 50-year-old actor has seen success making a few people laugh, and Wayan’s says he’s not adjusting his style for anyone. During an interview with Buzzfeed, the actor discussed a few of his films including Scary Movie and White Chicks. Some have seen the latter as problematic since the initial 2004 release, though Wayans isn’t too worried about that stigma claiming movies like his are “needed....

Even when he has an epiphany and hopes to make things right on Christmas after committing so many wrongs, Ebenezer Scrooge only makes things much worse. This is what happens in one of the new sketches that aired on Saturday night’s new episode of Saturday Night Live, co-hosted by comedy legends Martin Short and Steve Martin. In the skit, Short plays Scrooge in a new ending to A Christmas Carol that has the bitter old man trying to turn over a new leaf by offering a coin to an orphan, but that’s just the first part of what becomes a bloody, horrifying ordeal for the townspeople....

Matthew Modine cannot come to terms with his Stranger Things character’s send-off in season 4 and thinks he could return in the future. Modine plays one of the antagonists, Dr. Martin Brenner, aka Papa, in Stranger Things. Dr. Brenner worked for the U.S. government and helped raise several children with psychokinetic abilities, including Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven. Dr. Brenner seemingly perished at the hands of a Demogorgon in Stranger Things season one but made a surprise return in the recently concluded season four....

Advances in modern technology have made it possible to roll back the years for actors in movies, and the technique of de-aging and digital deep-fake is only just getting started. However, according to visual effects executive Matt Panousis, the use of de-aging in movies is seen more than anyone realizes, thanks to some subtle changes made in around 85% of movies. It is 17 years since X-Men: The Last Stand used de-aging technology for the first time to turn back the clock for Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan in a flashback sequence....

Netflix is officially doing away with user reviews. The world’s largest streaming service has notified its users via email that they will no longer be able to read and write reviews of TV shows and movies on the Netflix website. User reviews were only available through a computer, meaning that they couldn’t be accessed or composed via the app on a smartphone, tablet or other device. As such, Netflix says they’ve seen a decline in users taking part in reviews and they’ve decided to just do away with it entirely....

The new animated comedy adventure DuckTales will premiere in a one-hour television movie to be presented for 24 consecutive hours, Saturday, August 12 (beginning at midnight EDT/PDT), on Disney XD. Then, the series will debut with two new episodes Saturday, September 23 (7:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., 8:00 p.m., 10:30 p.m. EDT/PDT). Each will also be available on the Disney XD app and Disney XD VOD on these same dates....

According to Variety, after years of intricate negotiation New Line has finally gotten Rush Hour 3 on the fast track. The studio has at long last signed Chris Tucker, Jackie Chan, director Brett Ratner and screenwriter Jeff Nathanson to return for the sequel. Tucker will earn $20 million against 20% of gross, and his deal comes with a second-picture commitment for the same salary on a film to be determined later....
