It looks like as well as filming almost back to back, Tom Cruise’s final Mission: Impossible movies will be like two chapters of one story, with Mission: Impossible 7 reportedly set to end on a massive cliffhanger that will leave fans waiting a whole year to be resolved in Mission: Impossible 8. The final two movies in the long-running action franchise have seen a number of delays due to the Covid pandemic, and for that reason found their release date slipping back to 2023 and 2024 respectively....

IMAX Corporation and Paramount Pictures today announced that Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol will begin previews in IMAX beginning Friday, Dec. 16 and playing through the film’s run at the box office, which begins worldwide on Dec. 21, 2011. This marks the first time a domestic feature release has been released early in IMAX theatres and reinforces the event nature of this highly-anticipated film. Directed by Academy Award-winner Brad Bird, Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol stars Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Paula Patton....

Fox’s long-running animated sitcom The Simpsons is generating some controversy once again, this time with the manager of the British singer Morrissey. On the latest episode of the cartoon, titled “Panic on the Streets of Springfield,” Benedict Cumberbatch guest starred as a Morrissey-inspired character named Quilloughby, a depressed singer from the 80s who becomes Lisa’s imaginary best friend. The episode also featured parody songs in Morrissey’s style that were co-written by Bret McKenzie of Flight of the Conchords....

Battlestar Galactica executive producer David Eick is teaming with feature screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis to reinvent The Bionic Woman for NBC, according to Variety. Eick and Kalogridis will executive produce a new take on The Bionic Woman, a 1970s spinoff of The Six Million Dollar Man in which Lindsay Wagner played tennis pro-turned-superwoman Jamie Sommers. The series aired for two seasons on ABC before shifting to NBC in 1977 for its final year....

Late yesterday it was reported that a hacker stole season 5 of Netflix’s hit show Orange Is the New Black. Netflix does not like to share too much information with the public. The media company does not even release streaming numbers, but apparently Orange is the New Black is rumored to be the platform’s highest streamed show, so you can understand why a premature leak of the new season months before its debut could be a big deal to Netflix....

Wrestling’s newest weeknight ratings war kicked off, and believe it or not, the underdog won. All Elite Wrestling (AEW), the brand new wrestling league premiering its weekly series AEW Dynamite, made its debut on Wednesday on the TNT network. Perhaps not so coincidentally, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) aired their own wrestling program WWE NXT on USA Network at the exact same time. Given how WWE has been established for decades as the world’s top wrestling promotion, the odds were against WWE for the ratings battle, but it’s now being reported AEW were the first winners of the new “Wednesday Night Wars....

The LA Daily News spoke to director Jon Turteltaub, who reports that the sequel to Disney’s 2004 Nicolas Cage hit, National Treasure, will begin shooting in early 2007. Turletaub says “We are just about to start pre-production … We’ll have Nic, Justin Bartha, Diane Kruger, Jon Voight and Harvey Keitel … Everyone’s back except anyone who’s in jail or died.” The first film, which grossed $348 million worldwide, followed archaeologist Benjamin Franklin Gates (Cage) on a search for a hidden treasure from the 1700s secretly mapped out on the back of the Declaration of Independence....

Guillermo Del Toro’s remake of Nightmare Alley looks amazing, but suffers from poor pacing and a surprising lack of chemistry between the A-list leads. The film drags considerably over its two hours and thirty minutes runtime. The individual performances, particularly in the first act, are strong, but then wane as the plot takes shape. Leaving Nightmare Alley on a downward trajectory that unfortunately failed to hold my interest. Nightmare Alley opens in the early 1940s at a dingy carnival....

Why did Disney make a Star Wars show about Obi-Wan Kenobi? The answer seems obvious: Because he’s Obi-Wan. He’s important to the stories of both the prequel series and the original trilogy. Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor both played a character that’s at the heart of many people’s nostalgia, whether for the prequels or the original films. Obi-Wan was also in the beloved animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. He’s also one of the few remaining Jedi, and so, in Obi-Wan Kenobi, he is on the run from the Empire’s ever-watchful eye, which is sure to add to the drama of the show....

Harpo Incorporated President Tim Bennett announced today that Oprah Winfrey is expected to announce the end of her twenty-five year run on syndicated television tomorrow. Her final airdate is expected to be September 9th, 2011. At this time, Oprah’s reasons for calling it quits are unclear. And it has yet to be announced that she will be taking her popular talk show to her newly formed Oprah Winfrey Network, otherwise known as OWN....

There’s an end insight for this Droughtlander once again because Starz has finally announced the season 5 premiere date for its time-traveling romance series. Outlander is set to premiere its fifth season on Sunday, February 16, 2020. At which point, the series will have been off the air for over a year. Actors Casey Affleck and Camilla Belle are both in talks to star in Paradise Lost for Legendary Pictures and director Alex Proyas. Casey Affleck is in talks to portray Gabriel, the angel with six wings who also serves as a messenger to God. Camilla Belle is the top choice to portray Eve, although the deal has not been cemented yet.
