Unlike some major movie studios in recent days, it doesn’t appear that Microsoft will jump the HD DVD ship quite yet. A Reuters story stated that the software company would consider the Blu-Ray format, if that’s what the consumers ultimately decided upon. Apparently, that was taken somewhat out of context. Microsoft spoke with the gaming site Kotaku.com to clear up any discrepancies with that story, and here’s what a Microsoft rep had to say....

DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc., together with Paramount Pictures Corporation, a unit of Viacom Inc., announced today that Monsters vs. Aliens, DreamWorks Animation’s first-ever film produced in stereoscopic 3-D technology, will be released into theatres on March 27, 2009. The film had been previously slated for its domestic release on May 15, 2009. “I believe that next generation 3-D will make our CG films even more special and unique,” said Jeffrey Katzenberg, Chief Executive Officer of DreamWorks Animation....
According to Variety, Super Size Me helmer Morgan Spurlock has optioned bestseller “The Republican War on Science” to direct as a docu project next year. Tome, by Chris Mooney, explores the motivations behind the U.S. government’s stances on scientific topics, from stem-cell research and climate change to missile defense and sex education. Mooney argues in “War” that the right-wing approach to scientific research is born of a conservative distaste for environmental, health and safety regulations, as well as evolution theory and legalized abortion....

Paramount Pictures, a unit of Viacom Inc., will launch an in-house animation division, with its first title slated for release in 2014. In making the announcement, Paramount Chairman & CEO Brad Grey said the initiative was part of the studio’s long-term strategy for growth and that the new division, Paramount Animation, will focus on high quality animation with budgets per picture of up to $100 million. Director Thor Freudenthal has signed on to direct Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Sea Monsters for 20th Century Fox.
