NBC is officially entering the streaming game. NBCUniversal has announced the name of its service, Peacock, which comes from the company’s famed logo. The service is set to launch in April 2020 and will be competing with the likes of Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+ and HBO Max, amongst others. While the marketplace is crowded, the company announced an impressive slate of programming that will be available at launch. Peacock will launch with more than 15,000 hours of content....

Before Uncharted, before God of War, even before Ratchet and Clank, there was Tomb Raider. A staple series of the original PlayStation console before ultimately becoming a multi-platform juggernaut, Tomb Raider follows the globe-trotting adventures of gun-toting archeologist Lara Croft as she fights mythological monsters, wild animals, and competing treasure hunters in practically every corner of the globe, all while solving puzzles and performing outstanding acrobatics. The series is receiving its 20th game this year, following multiple reinventions of both Lara Croft herself and the tone of the franchise....

BBC reported that singers Alicia Keyes and The White Stripes frontman Jack White have both signed on to record the theme song, to be dubbed “Another Way to Die,” for the upcoming James Bond film, Quantum of Solace. Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford have climbed aboard Cabin in the Woods, the MGM/UA horror project written by Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard, who also will serve as director. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Cabin in the Woods story line provides a new twist on a classic scenario – in this case the young-people-stranded-in-the-woods horror trope. “It’s really just your basic typecasting: When you need two actors to run through the woods in low-cut nighties, you immediately think of Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford,” Goddard joked....
Riverdale season 5 will be making a massive time jump according to star Lili Reinhart. It had previously been revealed that The CW series, which is based on the Archie Comics universe, would be making a leap forward in time next season. But now, Reinhart has revealed that the jump will be significant, with the show jumping ahead a full seven years. Disney has unveiled the first details for their upcoming Monsters Inc. TV series, which is set to debut on the studio’s upcoming streaming service, Disney+. Well, it’s official. Ads are coming to Netflix. According to Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos, who recently spoke at the Cannes Lions advertising festival (via The Hollywood Reporter), the future of the streaming service will see the addition of adverts as they introduce an ad-supported tier that will come at a lower cost to the subscriber. “We’ve left a big customer segment off the table, which is people who say: ‘hey, Netflix is too expensive for me and I don’t mind advertising,’” Sarandos said at the event regarding the much-discussed idea of adding ads to Netflix....

Star Trek: Discovery released an action-packed second trailer at San Diego’s Comic-Con today. The new trailer comes after CBS announced that the highly anticipated show would launch on Sunday, September 24th, 2017 airing at 8:30 PM ET/PT. The time may be approximate due to Sunday night football and 60 Minutes, which runs directly before the show.
