Opening in theaters on March 11th is the new 3D computer-animated film from Walt Disney Pictures called Mars Needs Moms. The movie stars Seth Green (Robot Chicken), Joan Cusack (Toy Story 3), Dan Fogler (Take Me Home Tonight), Elisabeth Harnois (A Single Man), Mindy Sterling (Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery), and Tom Everett Scott (Southland). We recently had a chance to sit down and speak with Joan Cusack, Dan Fogler, Elisabeth Harnois, and Mindy Sterling, as well as director Simon Wells and writer Wendy Wells about the new film, producer Robert Zemeckis’s influence on the project, the original source material the movie is based on, and motion capture filmmaking....

Wonder Woman screenwriter Allan Heinberg has been tapped by Marvel Studios to create a Marvel Female Superhero Series for ABC. It is rumored that the show will put the focus on lesser-known superheroes from the world of Marvel Comics, but specific details are currently under wraps. Heinberg will executive produce along with Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb, while Marvel TV and ABC Studios are on board producing. The news comes after it was announced that Marvel Studios is developing two new shows for Disney’s streaming service for Loki and Scarlet Witch as well as other Marvel Cinematic Universe characters....

Everyone is loving Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical. Relased on Netflix on Christmas Day, the movie reimagines the classic story with Alisha Weir taking on the role of the extraordinary girl opposite Emma Thompson as Miss Trunchbull. Remakes and reimaginings seem to seldom land with fans, especially when there are previous versions held in high esteem, but for Matilda the Musical, Netflix has found a hit. The movie has landed with a perfect audience score of 100% at Rotten Tomatoes, with its critical score not too far behind at 91% fresh....

Hailing from Tehran, Iran, comedian and actor Maz Jobrani moved to Los Angeles, or as local Iranians call it, Tehrangeles, with a dream to be on the big screen. Jobrani has been in a series of films and TV shows. One of his biggest film roles was playing Jafar, the villain from Aladdin, in the made for TV musical saga Descendants. His film roles are sometimes stereotypical, like playing a terrorist or doctor, or he’s playing an exaggeration of Iranians, like in Jimmy Vestvood: Amerikan Hero....

Mckenna Grace has recently spoken publicly about her scoliosis for the first time. Grace’s father, an orthopedic surgeon, first noticed that his daughter was “wonky” when she was 12 years old. Eventually, she would have to wear a back brace made of “really hard plastic, like a corset almost,” which she would have to put on for about 22 hours daily. At first, whenever she would arrive at a new set, she would try to hide her scoliosis....

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. (“MGM”) today announced that the company’s restructuring has become effective, with exit financing of $500 million in place. The company’s “pre-packaged” plan of reorganization was confirmed on December 2, 2010, by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. “MGM is emerging from one of the most challenging periods of its storied history. Summit Entertainment is adapting Moira Buffini’s novel, The Night Circus for the silver screen. The film follows two young illusionists battling out their father’s longtime rivalry. When Iron Man comes in to theatres this summer, he won’t be doing it alone. He’ll be doing it with a whole bevy of corporations who are promoting the film, and their own products alongside it. Brandweek has announced several of the companies who have partnered with Paramount. To market the film, Paramount is beginning with a Super Bowl ad. They will then continue with promotions at 7-Eleven convenience stores, as well as with ad campaigns partnered with Burger King and Audi....

Variety happened to notice Fox’s somewhat unsuccessful summer at the box-office and chatted with some Fox execs to see how they intend to beef up the slate: Though Fox has no plans for a major overhaul, the studio has scheduled a strategy meeting to assess the status of its superheroes, a group sorely missed this summer. On the agenda, Fox will mull the possibility of more X-Men spinoffs, including a young-X-Men project as well as Deadpool, based on a character played by Ryan Reynolds in X-Men Origins: Wolverine....

Matthew McConaughey (The Lincoln Lawyer, A Time to Kill), Reese Witherspoon (Walk the Line), and Tye Sheridan (The Tree of Life, One Tree Hill) are in discussions to star in Mud, which is based on an original screenplay by Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter), who will also direct. Everest Entertainment is fully financing with Lisa Maria Falcone from Everest producing alongside Sarah Green (Untitled Terrence Malick Project, Take Shelter, The Tree of Life, Frida) and FilmNation Entertainment’s Aaron Ryder....

Once again, Mystery Science Theater 3000 is making a comeback. The comedy series, which follows its hosts watching B-movies from years past along with their robot companions, has gone through many changes over the years after moving from one home to another. Years after its two-season run on Netflix in 2017, a new revival of MST3K is almost here, and it will stream on the new Gizmoplex platform. The hens have come back to roost! Earlier today, Netflix and Aardman Animation have announced that they’re teaming up again to create that much-anticipated sequel for Chicken Run! They’ve also revealed that the film is to be titled Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, and it’s heading to Netflix in 2023. While it was announced previously that the film would be coming to Netflix, the title announcement is brand new. A few notable cast members will be reprising their roles, but the main duo of Ginger and Rocky will be voiced by all new actors....

Netflix has released the first trailer and poster for the new comedy series On My Block, which offers a glimpse at life in South Central Los Angeles for four young teenagers. The last few years of The Academy Awards telecasts have been plagued by sagging ratings, and with last year’s Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel returning for the 90th Oscars, unfortunately, the trend didn’t reverse. The overnight ratings reveal that the awards telecast slipped 19% from last year, to an all-time low of 26.5 million viewers.
