SCI FI’s new adrenaline-fueled actioner Painkiller Jane, starring Kristanna Loken, will debut on Friday, April 13 at 10pm ET/PT, following the highly anticipated mid-season returns of Stargate SG-1 (8pm) and Stargate: Atlantis (9pm). Based on the comic book created by Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada, Painkiller Jane follows the adventures of Jane Vasco (Loken), a kickass heroine with remarkable self-healing powers. Formerly a hardnosed DEA agent, Jane is recruited by a covert government organization tasked with capturing “Neuros” - genetically-enhanced individuals who possess superhuman powers of the mind....

It’s true, a group of plucky, young, bicycle-riding kids in the ’80s gets into some extradimensional shenanigans as they are hunted and navigate life-threatening plots, all while classic needle drops blare in the background in between suspenseful electronic music. Obviously, this sounds familiar, but Paper Girls is so much more than a Stranger Things knockoff; it certainly deserves to be compared to such a record-breaking show as Stranger Things, but this thing’s stranger and deserves to stand on its own....

The Parents Television and Media Council (PTC) has criticized Disney+ ahead of the debut of Daredevil, The Punisher, and other Netflix-produced Marvel TV shows on the streaming platform on March 16, 2022. All six Defenders universe shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, The Punisher, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders) are rated TV-MA (Mature Audiences Only) and thus are unsuitable for children. This does not sit well with the PTC, who last week slammed HBO’s Euphoria as well, calling it “grossly irresponsible” for its graphic depiction of nudity, drug use, and child abuse....

Details of Disney’s Predator prequel, Prey, have been slowly coming through over the last several months, and now director Dan Trachtenberg has revealed where he took some of his inspiration from; the video game series God of War. Taking to social media, the filmmaker celebrated the newfound appreciation for God of War, concluding that “it’s had some influence on PREY.” Created by David Jaffe at Sony’s Santa Monica Studio, God of War is an action-adventure video game franchise that began in 2005....

Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM) has expanded its theatrical distribution operations by announcing three new theatrical releases. The new MGM theatrical releases for 2006-2007 from The Weinstein Company, which will be continuing to oversee the marketing for its titles, include: Bobby, slated for release on November 22, 2006 for the Thanksgiving holiday, revisits the night Robert F. Kennedy was gunned down at the Ambassador Hotel in 1968. The film, which takes place against the backdrop of the cultural issues gripping the country at the time, is a fascinating and entertaining account that chronicles the intertwining lives of those at the hotel that evening....

Acclaimed actor Michael Sheen and actress Lizzy Caplan have been cast as the leads in the Showtime drama pilot Masters of Sex, where they will portray 1960’s human sexuality pioneers William Masters and Virginia Johnson. Directed by Academy Award nominee John Madden (Shakespeare in Love), the pilot will begin production in New York in March. Michelle Ashford (The Pacific), Judith Verno, and Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly (Justified) are executive producers....

Nominations for the 78th Academy Awards® will be announced Tuesday, January 31, by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Sid Ganis and Oscar-winning actress and Academy member Mira Sorvino. The actress, Naomi Ackie, depicts the late superstar Whitney Houston in an upcoming biopic set to release nationwide on Dec. 23. The film Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody tells the untold aspects of Houston’s struggles in her personal life and acclaimed musical career. Ackie told The Hollywood Reporter that she wanted to make sure she hit the right balance between the two, admitting that, at times, it was a challenge, but she was able to get help and support from Houston’s family for the role....

Time to go back on the treasure hunt. National Treasure: Edge of History, a television series based on the Nicolas Cage film franchise, is set for Disney+. The film series centered on Cage’s character Ben Franklin Gates, a member of a family of treasure hunters, as he investigates valuable artifacts from United States history. In the first film, Cage’s Gates steals the Declaration of Independence to decode a map on the back that points to the location of a treasure hidden by the Knights Templar....
