Visual effects supervisor Matthew Gratzner will make his directorial debut on the feature adaptation of UFO, based on the 1970s TV series. According to Variety, Gratzner was visual effects supervisor on the upcoming Martin Scorsese-directed Shutter Island, and his vfx resume includes The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, Hancock, Iron Man and Alien: Resurrection. The film was optioned from rights holder ITV Global by the Robert Evans Co., where producers Evans, Henri Kessler and Avi Haas will be joined by Gratzner’s New Deal Studios to move the project forward....

Actor Mel Gibson has re-confirmed that yes, he will be sitting in the director’s chair for long-awaited action sequel Lethal Weapon 5. While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Gibson re-confirmed that he will indeed be taking up directing duties on the upcoming fifth chapter in the hugely popular Lethal Weapon franchise, stating that he wishes he wasn’t, as it would mean that beloved filmmaker Richard Donner was still with us. Gibson reiterates that he was given Richard Donner’s blessing in the past, with the actor feeling honored to take over the franchise, which began way, way back in 1987....

Netflix has tapped Brooklyn Nine-Nine favorite Melissa Fumero to co-star with Randall Park in Blockbuster, a workplace comedy series set in the last operating Blockbuster Video store in the United States. The series comes from creator Vanessa Ramos and writers David Caspe and Jackie Clarke. Caspe and Clarke also serve as executive producers for Blockbuster alongside John Davis and John Fox of Davis Entertainment. The official logline for the sitcom reads: “An ensemble comedy that takes place in the last Blockbuster Video in America, that explores what it takes – and more specifically who it takes – for a small business to succeed against all odds....

SiCKO, Michael Moore’s highly acclaimed and entertaining expose of the American health care system, captivated audiences across the country earning $4.5 million on just 441 screens, for the second highest opening weekend of all time for a documentary, next to Moore’s previous film Fahrenheit 9/11. The weekend grosses more than doubled the projected box office revenues projected by NRG. The announcement was made today by Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company....

Top Gun: Maverick is the movie sensation of the summer, pulling in more than $1 billion worldwide to become the highest-grossing film in the legendary career of Tom Cruise. Returning to the role of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell for the first time in more than 35 years, Cruise proved he’s still as bonafide a movie star in 2022 as he was when the first Top Gun was released back in 1986. However, not everyone is impressed with Cruise skyrocketing back to the top of the box office charts....

David O. Russell’s Amsterdam features one of the best ensemble casts in recent memory, including talented actors such as Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, and John David Washington in the lead roles. However, the side characters boast just as much star power, with Mike Myers being one such actor to appear in the film. Law & Order is one season away from breaking Gunsmoke’s record as longest-running dramatic series and one story reveals the show will break the record while another story reveals it won’t. Deadline TV is reporting that NBC is now planning on canceling Law & Order, ending its chances for a record-breaking 21st season on the air. The site called the move “surprising” since the network had indicated they would pick the show up and break the record, but now with their strong development slate mostly in place for the upcoming season, it seems they have decided to bring the show to an end....

MTV reports that Nicolas Cage will reteam with Snake Eyes director Brian DePalma for The Untouchables: Capone Rising, playing a younger version of the character made famous by Robert DeNiro. Capone Rising is a prequel to DePalma’s 1987 classic The Untouchables, and will revolve around the early dealings between Capone and Irish cop Jimmy Malone, a role that garnered an Oscar for Sean Connery. Principal photography on the high-profile flick will begin in October, some 21 years after its predecessor was filmed....

NBC is officially bringing back Night Court with original co-star John Larroquette returning to produce and reprise his Emmy-winning role. Melissa Rauch of The Big Bang Theory is also on board to executive produce the project alongside Winston Rauch via their After January banner for Warner Bros. TV. Dan Rubin (The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) will also executive produce in addition to writing the reboot. At this time, there are no plans for Melissa Rauch to personally appear in the reboot, though the new Night Court was apparently her idea....

The final trailer for Get Out director Jordan Peele’s mysterious next project, Nope, at last reveals more details of the central plot. So, if you wish to remain in the dark about Nope, we advise that you look away now. The footage, released courtesy of Universal Pictures, once again asks “What’s a bad miracle?” and reveals the horrors that will befall Keke Palmer and Daniel Kaluuya on their small town ranch....

Outer Banks first premiered on Netflix in April 2020 and quickly gained notoriety among viewers and critics alike.
