Paramount Home Entertainment (PHE), a division of Viacom Inc., today announced its first day-and-date Blu-ray release, The Spiderwick Chronicles on June 24 and rolling out in key international markets beginning in July. Continuing its commitment to offer the best possible movie experiences for consumers, the studio will deliver the highest quality picture, sound and special features available with these upcoming Blu-ray releases. In the U.S., There Will Be Blood, Cloverfield, Bee Movie, Face/Off and Next will begin arriving May 20 to capitalize on Memorial Day and Father’s Day....

The highly-successful horror prequel Paranormal Activity 2 will be released on Blu-ray and DVD formats February 8. Both versions will contain the theatrical cut and an unrated cut with never-before-seen footage. Director Paul Greengrass and actor Matt Damon recently held a press conference for their upcoming film Green Zone, which arrives in theaters March 12, but the big topic of the day was the uncertain future of the Jason Bourne film series and the fourth Jason Bourne film that Greengrass stepped away from last November. A new documentary about Paul McCartney’s early post-Beatles solo career has been announced and is tentatively titled Man on the Run, according to Deadline. Grammy and Oscar-winner Morgan Neville will direct the film, the filmmaker behind Won’t You Be My Neighbor and Roadrunner: An Anthony Bourdain Movie. The announcement came a day before the 65th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. According to MPL and Universal Music Group’s Polygram Entertainment, Man on the Run will feature “Paul McCartney’s extraordinary life following the breakup of The Beatles and how the love he shared with Linda McCartney influenced a journey that would lead to the formation of Wings and more of the greatest music ever created....

Last week, we reported that comedian Michael Che has signed on to replace Cecily Strong as the co-host of Weekend Update on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, alongside returning host Colin Jost. Today we have word that 20-year-old rising stand up comedy star Pete Davidson has joined the cast as the only new featured player in Season 40. Our report from last week revealed that series creator Lorne Michaels was still planning on adding one or two new cast members for Season 40 of SNL, but he had not made a decision yet....

Principal photography has begun on Horsemen, a crime thriller starring Dennis Quaid (The Day After Tomorrow, Far From Heaven, Traffic) and Ziyi Zhang (Memoirs of a Geisha, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) it was announced today by Nathan Kahane, Mandate Pictures’ President - Motion Pictures Group. Directed by Jonas Åkerlund (Spun) from a screenplay by David Callaham, the film is produced by Platinum Dunes’ Michael Bay (Transformers), Andrew Form (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and Brad Fuller (The Amityville Horror)....

Beloved director Quentin Tarantino is reportedly in talks to direct episodes of FX’s upcoming Justified revival series, Justified: City Primeval. The limited series will see Timothy Olyphant return to the role of Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, an old school lawman who tends to shoot first and avoid asking questions entirely, and could see Tarantino helm “one or two episodes,” according to a report from Deadline. Should the talks yield results, Justified: City Primeval could see Quentin Tarantino reunite with Timothy Olyphant following their work on the seminal filmmaker’s Academy Award darling Once Upon a Time in Hollywood....

The Australian is reporting that pre-production on George Miller’s new movie Mad Max: Fury Road has been shut down, with filming now expected to start in February 2012. The site reports that crew members were told sometime this week that pre-production had been halted and now expected to start in either August or November of 2011. Filming is now expected to start in February 2012, on location in the Broken Hill area of Australia....
