According to Variety, Roadside Attractions and Liddell Entertainment have grabbed the U.S. distribution rights to Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Spanish film Biutiful. The film stars Javier Bardem. Biutiful drew mixed reviews when it played at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Bardem picked up the festival’s top acting award. Roadside will most likely release Biutiful in an awards run starting in the last week of December. “Biutiful joins the growing pantheon of tremendous, groundbreaking work by Alejandro González Iñárritu,” said Roadside co-president Howard Cohen....

Robbie Coltrane has sadly passed away at the age of 72, according to reports from Deadline. The actor was known for his roles in the Harry Potter franchise, James Bond, and Cracker. Coltrane passed away in a hospital near his home in Larbert, Scotland, after being ill for the past two years. His most notable role was in Harry Potter, where he portrayed Rubeus Hagrid, the half giant-half wizard who consistently aided Potter and his friends....

The Netflix ad-supported tier is coming, and coming quite soon, and while the ads may put some subscribers off, the idea of it having licensed movies and television shows could very well tempt them back. Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos spoke during the streaming giant’s second-quarter earnings interview, and revealed that the incoming ad-supported tier may be able to offer a wider variety of movies and shows. Though he did add that, should the attempt to bring licensed products to Netflix fail, viewers will still have plenty to watch....
