Netflix’s new Ad supported tier has arrived and instantly has caused a huge backlash on social media for a number of reasons. While some took issue with the platform’s lowest level streaming in 720p and not allowing downloads, others were more upset to find that many of Netflix’s top shows are not available on the new tier. Coming in at $6.99, $3 less than the ad-free Basic plan and $13 less than their top level premium, it could be argued that subscribers should be prepared for less of an experience when they are purchasing the lowest level on offer, but that is not how many see it....

Netflix has released the first trailer for Biohackers. The streaming service’s latest sci-fi series hails from Germany. They previously had luck with the non-English-language Dark, which has proved to be a big hit. This appears to cut from a similar cloth. Described as a “fast-paced thriller” that will “make you question the makeup of life itself,” this trailer is giving off some serious Black Mirror vibes. The trailer kicks off with a girl arriving at college to study medicine....

With some rumors flying about two of his upcoming films, a hot horror producer has decided to set the record straight. Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller wrote a recent post on his production company’s official blog and he told the fans that they are hoping to get started on Friday the 13th Part II in 3D, despite its recent delay. Hannah Horvath (Lena Dunham) lands a writing gig for a magazine run by Chelsea Peretti in the latest trailer for the final season of Girls, debuting on HBO Sunday, February 12 at 10 PM ET. Hannah tells Peretti’s new character that she thinks she’d be a great fit for this magazine, because she doesn’t “give a s–t about anything”, yet she “simultaneously has opinions about everything.” This writing job involves Hannah writing a piece about surfing, which she can’t wait to ‘dive’ into, despite a number of seemingly contradictory opinions about sand, fun, and more related to the job....

Nocebo scores style points with good acting, disturbing imagery, and a political message about the consequences of economic exploitation. It unfortunately fails as a supernatural thriller due to a total lack of scares. The film broadcasts its intentions early in the first act. You quickly understand what’s happening in the narrative. Then have to wait an arduous ninety-minutes for the characters to catch up....

The pirate’s life is a very good life on DVD. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End made a huge splash on the DVD sales charts, easily taking crown. The pirates’ performance was so strong that it was reported the Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End disc sold twice as many discs as box office rival Spider-Man 3, and it also outsold the first two Pirates discs on their respective first weeks....

Earlier this week, some eagle-eyed fans noticed that Netflix already has a listing for The Punisher spinoff series, which reveals that the streaming service is eyeing a 2017 premiere date. HBO Max has renewed Raised by Wolves for season 2. The renewal comes as Ridley Scott’s sci-fi series is in the middle of its first season. But the show has been the top-performing title on the streaming service since its launch, with the audience continuing to grow. With that, WarnerMedia will soldier on for at least one more round of episodes. Amanda Collin and Abubakar Salim lead the series cast. The first three minutes of Knock, Knock, which basically revolve around someone playing ding-dong-ditch and following up this cheesy, childish little stunt by punching through what looks like a solid mahogany door leave me nonplussed at best. Sad to say, this low-budget shitstravaganza isn’t going to manage to follow up any better. The plot is rather simple enough–someone’s going around killing popular kids at a high school and leaving their bodies scattered around like so many Twinkie wrappers....
