The Los Angeles Times talked with Winter’s Bone director Debra Granik who revealed she is developing a new treatment for Pippi Longstocking with her producing partner Anne Rosellini. Debra Granik talked about the evolution of the female character: Nine-year-old Pippi is unconventional, assertive, and has superhuman strength, being able to lift her horse one-handed without difficulty. She frequently mocks and dupes adults she encounters, an attitude likely to appeal to young readers; however, Pippi usually reserves her worst behavior for the most pompous and condescending of adults....

USA Network, the American Film Institute (AFI) and Universal Pictures proudly announce the exclusive airing of To Kill a Mockingbird on Saturday, April 7th at 8 PM ET/PT on USA, featuring a special introduction from President Barack Obama. The airing on USA marks the first national broadcast of the digitally remastered and fully restored classic. Based on Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, the film tells the story of lawyer Atticus Finch (Gregory Peck) and his struggle for justice in a small community in Alabama....

After the success of Elvis, there will be more of the story told between Elvis and Priscilla Presley in the upcoming movie Priscilla. In development at A24, the film is written and directed by Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation) and will star Cailee Spaeny (The Craft: Legacy) as Priscilla alongside Jacob Elordi (Euphoria) as Elvis. The film is based on Priscilla Presley’s 1985 memoir Elvis & Me, which explores the titular pair’s relationship from how it started to its tragic conclusion....

Production is underway in Tokyo on Regency Enterprises’ Shutter, a psychological thriller starring Joshua Jackson (Bobby), Rachael Taylor (Transformers), David Denman (The Office), James Kyson Lee (Heroes) and John Hensley (Nip/Tuck). Masayuki Ochiai directs from a screenplay by Luke Dawson, based on a 2004 Thai film. The story centers on a newly married couple who discover disturbing, ghostly images in photographs they develop after a tragic accident. Fearing the manifestations may be connected, they investigate and learn that some mysteries are better left unsolved....

A few months ago, Sylvester Stallone revealed some story details for his upcoming action sequel, and now it seems the story has changed a bit. Sylvester Stallone reached out to Stallone Zone (via AICN) and he gave some updates on the story of Rambo V: A Savage Hunt. The original update from September revealed that Stallone would be hunting down said “man/beasts” that were genetically created in a lab in the Pacific Northwest, not too far from where the original First Blood took place, but it seems that another character will take over those duties....

Black Mirror took its influence from real-life for the Metalhead episode. The death dogs were based on Boston Dynamics’ robots like the BigDog. However, technology has come a long way since then and now we’re looking at a smaller and more versatile version of the robot from MIT called the Mini Cheetah and it’s freaking people out on social media. These new robots are able to run, jump, and even play soccer, as evidenced by recent viral videos....

Law and disorder continue on Comedy Central as Reno 911! returns for a fifth season. The half-hour comedy is created by and stars Robert Ben Garant, Kerri Kenney-Silver and Thomas Lennon as cops on patrol in Reno, Nevada. The season premiere debuts Wednesday, January 16 at 10:30 p.m. In the debut episode, find out if Garcia steals Dangle’s husband and who is the father of Deputy Wiegel’s baby. Guest stars in the episode include Christina Applegate, Lisa Lampanelli and Nick Swardson....

Academy Award-nominated actor Richard Jenkins (The Visitor) and Cameron Bright (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) have joined the cast of Charles-Olivier Michaud’s latest drama One Square Mile. Written by scribes Josh Campbell and Jeff Van Wie, the film will be produced by Howard Burd and Micah Sparks of Phoenix Rising Motion Pictures, and Deborah Moore of Inner Primary Entertainment. Martin Harmon is executive producing for Phoenix Rising Motion Pictures. International sales are being handled by Lawrence Meyers, Bobby Meyers and Peter Rowley of Meyers Media Group....

Lionsgate continues to play the Blu-ray game. In a story from The Digital Bits, the company announced it’s third wave of Blu-ray titles. On October 17, expect American Psycho, First Blood, Saw II and Young Guns to hit stores. No word yet on special features. Also at the recent Entertainment Media Expo the studios revealed the following HD-DVD and Blu-ray plans: Warner Bros. plans to put out “between 35 and 50 additional HD-DVD titles before the end of the year (in addition to the 21 already available)....

Netflix has officially set a premiere date for the sixth and final season of Lucifer. During the official Comic-Con@Home panel for the series on Saturday, it was announced that the last episodes will debut on September 10th, 2021. A new teaser with the official premiere date has also been released online, and you can take a look at it below. Filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan is especially fond of Bruce Willis, the now-retired actor who appeared in a handful of the former’s films. Quite notably, Willis co-starred with Haley Joel Osment in The Sixth Sense, the hit film that essentially put Shyamalan on the map as a Hollywood director. In the movie, released in 1999, Willis plays a therapist whose child patient (Osment) can see and speak to dead people. The film is particularly well-known for its twist ending, something that would become commonplace in future Shyamalan stories....

Now Freeform is bringing Squirrel Girl to life in the comedy New Warriors. The show has been ordered straight to series....

Earlier today I had the chance to speak with director Matt Reeves, who is promoting the home video release of Let Me In on Blu-ray and DVD. I also asked him about the status of the highly-anticipated sequel Cloverfield 2, which, as it turns out, is still in the idea stage. Netflix’s success in amassing and promoting adaptations of Korean webtoons is only one example of how the company makes the most of content from unanticipated regions. Netflix has opted to release Alkhallat+, a Saudi Arabian comedy satirical thriller that follows an anthology of stories centered on various characters in diverse settings. Telfaz11, a prolific Saudi Arabian production company that has been massively successful with films like Blue Spirit, Raven Song, and Khambalah: Stereotype since its establishment in 2011, is collaborating with Netflix on the current project....
