During Comic-Con 2011, Legendary Pictures held their first panel, where they discussed upcoming projects such as the video game adaptation Mass Effect and Pacific Rim. The studio asked fans to tweet questions for the panelists and, due to time constraints, many of the fan questions went unanswered. Legendary Pictures posted answers to some of these unanswered questions back in August, which indicates the Mass Effect movie will follow a completely different story line that what’s laid out in the game....

Men at Work, the new TBS original comedy series from Sony Pictures Television, has begun production in Los Angeles. Created by Breckin Meyer (Road Trip, TNT’s Franklin & Bash), the sitcom stars Danny Masterson (That ’70s Show, Yes Man), Michael Cassidy (The O.C.), Adam Busch (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), James Lesure (Las Vegas) and Meredith Hagner (Royal Pains). MTV’s The Hills was partly inspired by Mischa Barton’s hit show The O.C., so it seems fitting that she has announced she’ll be participating in The Hills reboot. While Barton’s old show wasn’t a reality TV series, it inspired MTV to produce 2004’s Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, one year after the premiere of The O.C. The Real Orange County later splintered off into The Hills, which ran from 2006 to 2010, and was hugely successful....

Everyone’s favorite comic strip cat is soon getting another new animated series, as Viacom has acquired the rights to Garfield from owners Paws. With the deal described as a “definitive agreement” and expected to close in the near future, the acquisition will bring about a new Garfield animated series for Nickelodeon with creator Jim Davis producing. This is seen as a big win for the popular children’s network, as the deal brings in another big name series to a line-up that includes Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, SpongeBob SquarePants, and an upcoming Rugrats revival....

Paramount is developing a feature version of the award-winning children’s tale Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Neil Burger (The Illusionist) is in talks to write the screenplay, and former Walden exec Cary Granat is on board to produce. This film would be the second theatrical go-round for the book, which MGM brought to the screen in 1982 as the animated The Secret of NIMH, directed by Don Bluth....

Last week, Chris Hardwick’s ex-girlfriend Chloe Dykstra penned a lengthy essay alleging that Hardwick was emotionally and sexually abusive towards her during the course of their three year relationship. Though she never mentions the TV personality by name, the essay went viral in a matter of hours, which led to swift actions taken by Nerdist, AMC, and San Diego Comic-Con against Hardwick. Now, Chris Hardwick’s mother-in-law, publishing heiress Patty Hearst, shared an old video from Chloe Dykstra’s YouTube channel in an effort to defend her son-in-law....

Earlier today, The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the nominees for the 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards, which will take place Sunday, January 8 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, with Jimmy Fallon hosting this year’s awards ceremony. The Golden Globes are among the few awards shows that honor both movies and TV shows alike, and here separating the TV nominations. FX’s The People v. O.J. SCI FI Wire recently caught up with director Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) who is currently developing a Dune reboot. Based on Frank Herbert’s sci-fi novel, Berg is planning on bringing a wholly different take to the material than previous directors. The most famous adaptation was done by David Lynch in 1984. Berg wants his version to be more epic in scope. “I think I had a much more different experience, I think, with the book than David Lynch did....

Big Screen Entertainment Group announced that it has completed the post production process on its upcoming horror/thriller motion picture Babysitter Wanted, starring Sarah Thompson (Seventh Heaven), Matt Dallas (Kyle XY), Bruce Thomas (Legally Blonde), Kristen Dalton (The Departed), Bill Moseley (“House of a Thousand Corpses”, “The Devil’s Rejects”), Monty Bane (Sleepwalkers) and Nana Visitor (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine). “We’ve been working around the clock at our editing facilities at Paramount Studios to lock the picture, and I am extremely pleased with our final product....

Netflix has just released a trailer for Race: Bubba Wallace. A six-episode docuseries coming to the streaming service in February, Race puts viewers right there into the driver’s seat for the past couple of years of Bubba’s life with exclusive access to the driver during the 2021 NASCAR season. You can watch the new trailer for the docuseries below. “This is unlike any project I’ve ever participated in; it’s a raw, emotional and completely transparent account of the events that took place throughout the 2020 and 2021 NASCAR seasons," Wallace said of the series....

Last week, I journeyed north to ILM to speak with two of the men responsible for the animated hit Rango, which hits the shelves on Blu-ray and DVD on July 15. The movie was quite a success, both critically and financially, and it also was a first for both Paramount Pictures and ILM. Rango is the first stand-alone animated feature which Paramount distributed themselves (the studio usually distributed DreamWorks Animation projects, with the most recent example being Kung Fu Panda 2)....

I guess my name’s getting around somewhere. Because recently, ADV Films started sending me stuff. Which, I guess, sort of works–ADV’s lineup is almost exclusively anime, and there are at least a few video stores that get it. It’s not like you’ll ever spot “Excel Saga” in theatres (much as I might wish you would. Any studio heads reading this, think about it. Just don’t screw it up.), so in its way, it really DOES kinda work....

When it was announced that Nicolas Cage would be portraying the latest incarnation of Dracula in the Universal Monsters reboot movie Renfield, it was clearly going to be like no Dracula before it. Now as more details about the comedy horror take on the classic characters of Bram Stoker’s gothic novel, director Chris McKay has explained exactly how Cage’s vampire will come across in the movie. Renfield is the latest Universal reimagining of their classic Universal Monsters IP, and is hoping to follow in the success of 2020’s The Invisible Man....
