Although purely fictional, filled with superhuman strength, aliens, magic-users, and time traveling, the Marvel Cinematic Universe manages to feature a few real-life historical events in their movies and Disney+ series. How would they even avoid it if one of the first American superheroes was created solely to defeat the Nazis and help win one of the World Wars, after all? Indeed, part of the franchise’s earlier efforts to ground comic book superhero movies in the real world involved infusing real-life historical events, such as Captain America’s involvement in World War II and, more presently, Tony Stark’s contribution to the War in Afghanistan....

The hit TV show Better Call Saul is done and over with, having wrapped up its six-season run last month, but former series star Michael McKean is still thinking about the finale. In the first three seasons, McKean co-starred in the Breaking Bad spinoff series as Chuck McGill, the older brother of Bob Odenkirk’s Jimmy McGill. Chuck had served as an antagonist of the series, and his feud with his brother ultimately culminated with the demise of the character in season 3....

For several years, Hollywood has shifted from an endless cash-grab of remakes and reboots to delivering a host of nostalgic legacy sequels. In general, this has led to a string of box office hits including Ghostbusters: Afterlife and currently Top Gun: Maverick, which has further stoked the need for the return of more original casts in new sequels to 80s and 90s movies. It looks like one such movie that is inching closer to a new belated sequel is Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, the 1997 cult classic starring Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino....

Well, as 2006 closes out it’s time to look back at the Top 20 Movies that made me realize why I am lucky to work in the industry I do. Sure, I get that feeling when I cover certain theatrical releases, DVDs, or conduct interviews with talent, but for a pure, unbridled, uncorrupted experience, there’s nothing like going to a movie theater, sitting down and seeing another film that makes me fall in love with cinema all over again....

A single scene from the newly released action-packed movie involves a precision scope from a broken sniper rifle being haphazardly thrown into a rocket launcher. In turn, the isolated explosion that occurs between the large projectile and the splintered gun lens causes the person who was handling such a powerful weapon to violently and visually be blown to their death....

The Batman arrives in cinemas in two months’ time, and another new image from the highly anticipated movie appeared online to give the best look yet at Robert Pattinson’s new look Batsuit. With so much footage and still being released well ahead of the film’s release, it sometimes seems like there will be nothing left to be revealed by the time it hits cinemas in March. Of course, that is not exactly true, and there is still much that we don’t know about the plot of The Batman, such as the Riddler’s true plan, whether the Joker will or won’t be making a moment, and what the rumored “jaw-on-the-floor” moment is towards the end of the movie....

Nick McGlashan, a fisherman who appeared frequently on the Discovery Channel series Deadliest Catch, passed away on Sunday in Nashville, Tennessee. At this time, a cause of death hasn’t been revealed as the case is under investigation, but the reality television star’s death was confirmed by the Davidson County Medical Examiner. He was just 33 years old. “Our deepest sympathy goes out to Nick’s loved ones during this difficult time,” a Discovery Channel spokesperson said in a statement....

Dark humor is really hard. It is a thin line to walk, it can turn to mean, and no one likes that. But when dark humor is good, it is the best kind of humor, it makes us feel grateful to be alive, and helps us laugh our problems off. Not Dead Yet wears its darkness with pride on its title, now we have to watch it use it. Overture Films announced today its acquisition of The Men Who Stare at Goats. The Smokehouse production stars Oscar-winner George Clooney (Syriana) and is directed by Oscar-nominee Grant Heslov (producer and co-writer of Good Night, And Good Luck). The comedy ensemble is rounded out by Golden Globe-nominee Ewan McGregor (Moulin Rouge!), Oscar-winner Kevin Spacey (American Beauty, The Usual Suspects) and Oscar-nominee Jeff Bridges (The Contender). ‘Goats’ is produced by Clooney, Heslov and Paul Lister....

These movies are absolutely adorable; every moment is exciting to watch and lovely to experience. And after five long years since Paddington 2, audiences finally have news about the third installment in the series, Paddington in Peru. Though the movies, shows, and books involving sweet Paddington Bear have so much indescribable charm, they also have incredible villains....

As this comedic take on I Spit on Your Grave moves into the Cannes Marketplace, it also picks up 70s blaxploitation Queen Pam Grier, 80s artifact Brigitte Nielsen, and 90s direct-to-video prince Michael Madsen, giving Skinny Dip a nice sheen of authenticity....

Universal Pictures has released a red band trailer for the upcoming sci-fi comedy Paul, which arrives in theaters nationwide on March 18. Showtime has released a new trailer for Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. The sequel series is continuing the legacy that the original Penny Dreadful left behind, but with a new story and a new cast. That effectively makes this more of an anthology series at this point. Different though it may be, based on this new trailer, the new series will feel right at home alongside its predecessor, as Satan has arrived in Los Angeles....

Fans of 90s animation rejoice, as Pinky and the Brain are finally making a comeback. While the iconic duo won’t be coming back in their own show again, they will be part of the upcoming Animaniacs revival, which is coming to Hulu later this year. This, according to actor Rob Paulsen, who voices Pinky, as well as Yakko on the show. The Animaniacs revival reveal came during a recent interview with Rob Paulsen....

Sony’s TriStar Pictures today announced Chuck Waite of El Cerrito, California has won the competition to design the official poster for the highly anticipated Silent Hill, set for release nationwide in theatres on April 21, 2006. The winning poster, which can be seen on the film’s website WelcometoSilentHill.com, will be on display in theaters across the country prior to release of the film. Waite will also receive a cash prize of $2500....

For those not old enough to remember, Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In was the SNL of its day, turning Lily Tomlin, Arte Johnson, JoAnn Worley, Goldie Hawn and Ruth Buzzi into household names. Buzzi’s Twitter account is normally brimming with one-line zingers but on Tuesday, there was an ominous post that read: The 86-year-old Buzzi, and her husband Kent Perkins, live in Erath County, Texas. Perkins wrote in a Facebook post on Monday that he is signing off the platform until further notice to care for his wife....

Peacock has revealed the Punky Brewster reboot premiere date, along with a first-look image. The original show ran on NBC from 1984 to 1986, and again with new episodes in syndication from 1987 to 1988. The show quickly became a cult hit and even spawned an animated series which saw cast members return. Over the years, the cult of Punky Power has grown, so it seemed like a no-brainer for Peacock to announce that they were bringing star Soleil Moon Frye to star in the Punky Brewster reboot series early last year....

Nickelodeon has released the fast paced, stylish first footage from their upcoming Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. While the look may be different, the tropes of everybody’s favorite Ninja Turtles are intact, complete with one-liners and some clumsy action. Raphael, Donatello, Leonardo, and Michelangelo have different roles, personalities, and even names this time around, but it seems that the roles are only slightly changed. For instance, Leonardo seems a little more head-strong in this new series while Michelangelo stays in party mode....

Fans of the popular Disney+ series Loki have been eagerly awaiting news of Season 2 and its fresh batch of mysteries. While Marvel has been tight-lipped about what’s coming next, Gugu Mbatha-Raw—who plays Ravonna Renslayer—recently gave an intriguing tease about her character’s story arc. Ravonna serves as a Judge in the Time Variance Authority and decides the punishments for those causing problems on the Sacred Timeline. In Season 1, she was mostly stuck within the confines of the TVA, and it became clear that she wanted out....

It would be difficult to overestimate Netflix’s influence over modern television. While the network has been a subject of several controversies for sprouting prices, withholding any actual viewership analytics, and cutting its animation department, it still managed to consistently give us some of the best original series and movies. A gem in the crown is, of course, Love, Death, and Robots. This anthology series hit a message home that animation should be elevated, not diminished by Hollywood....
