Picturehouse and New Line International have acquired all rights to Francois Girard’s epic, romantic drama Silk starring Michael Pitt (Last Days), Keira Knightley (Pride & Prejudice), Koji Yakusho (Memoirs of a Geisha) and Alfred Molina (Spiderman II). It was announced today by Bob Berney, president of Picturehouse, Rolf Mittweg, president and COO of New Line Worldwide Distribution and Marketing and Camela Galano, president of New Line International. Based on the beloved, best-selling novel by Alessandro Baricco, Silk is the story of Herve Joncour, a 19th Century French Silkworm merchant who travels to Japan and begins a clandestine and forbidden romance with a mysterious and sensual woman....

Andrew Dominik, who’s helming the upcoming Marilyn Monroe biopic - Blonde, has claimed that his film draws inspiration and elements from classics like Raging Bull and Citizen Kane. Blonde is based on the famous yet tragic life of the Hollywood actress, who gained immense recognition and attention for what the industry at the time dubbed as “blonde bombshell” roles. Matt Damon is set to star in The Human Factor, joining Morgan Freeman in the Clint Eastwood-directed film for Warner Bros. According to Variety, Damon will play rugby star Francois Pienaar, who created, with Nelson Mandela, an event that gave whites and blacks in South Africa a common cause to rally around as the country was trying to heal from the wounds of apartheid. Director Paul Greengrass has put his upcoming Martin Luther King project Memphis on hold for at least a year. We reported back in February that Paul Greengrass is coming aboard to direct. It seems the director wants to film another project first and then get to work on Memphis for a late 2012 platform release, and a wide release over the Martin Luther King holiday weekend in January 2013. One of the projects Paul Greengrass is reportedly circling is an adaptation of The Great Blue Good-by a....

The Shield star Michael Chiklis is returning to FX by joining the cast of American Horror Story: Freak Show. Series creator Ryan Murphy announced the news during the show’s PaleyFest panel over the weekend. The actor will portray the ex-husband of Kathy Bates’ character and the father of Evan Peters’ character. According to The Hollywood Reporter, MTV is expanding its slate of documentary programs with greenlights given to three new unscripted series offering an unvarnished look at the lives of young people in settings not often seen in primetime. The programs were designed to offer viewers a glimpse of how teenagers and young adults live in areas far removed from urban centers.
