Though television has changed a lot throughout the years, one concept that has always stuck around are family-oriented shows. We may see less shows with laugh-tracks, but there are still several hilarious shows wrapped around family. Shows like Modern Family use the single-camera style with interviews between each scene. We also have dramatic family television like the acclaimed series This Is Us. There is something soothing and magical about going on a journey with a television family....

I don’t think too many people expected this - Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest is breaking record after record. The Disney film easily destroyed every weekday record of box office sales in its first week, and day after day, the numbers just kept going up and up. Everyone knew Pirates was going to be the number one movie this weekend, but the one record it didn’t break, it came awfully close....

The Walt Disney Company is donating proceeds from the highly anticipated World Premiere of Walt Disney Pictures/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, to Boys & Girls Clubs of America, it was announced today by Rich Ross, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. The first-ever 3D outdoor event will take place on May 7th at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, with all of the film’s stars expected to attend along with many Hollywood celebrities....

Summit Entertainment has set release dates for six of its upcoming releases, including the previously announced sequel Red 2, which hits theaters August 2, 2013. This follow-up to last year’s Red will go up against another sequel on that date, Sony’s Smurfs 2. The studio has also given a March 15, 2013 release date to Ender’s Game, which is being directed by Gavin Hood. Warner Bros.’ Arthur & Lancelot is the only other movie set to open March 15, 2013, as of now....

Academy Award®-nominated actress Reese Witherspoon will be a presenter at the 78th Academy Awards ceremony, telecast producer Gil Cates announced today. Witherspoon recently received her first Oscar nomination for her 2005 leading role as June Carter Cash in Walk the Line. She will be seen next in “Penelope.” Her film credits include Election, Vanity Fair, the Legally Blonde films, Sweet Home Alabama, Pleasantville and Freeway. Skydance Animation brought forth a wonderful world that brings the concept of luck to a whole new level, similar to how Inside Out did the same with emotions. Sam Greenfield is one of the unluckiest girls in the world, but her adventure starts when she discovers the power of a lucky penny. Luck is Skydance’s first-ever feature film, and they aimed to knock it out of the park with a wonderful cast, a well-done script, and a fully developed world....

The second official trailer has been released for M3GAN. Written by Akela Cooper and helmed by Gerard Johnstone, M3GAN tells the story of a life-like doll with artificial intelligence who’s been programmed to serve as a loyal companion for young children. Trouble brews when the M3GAN doll becomes a bit too protective of her human friend, resulting in the horrific murders of anyone deemed to pose a threat. You can watch the new trailer below....

Marvel Entertainment released their Q1 earnings report today, fresh off the very successful opening weekend of Iron Man. In their release, Marvel clued us in to their plans for their future film adaptations, including Thor, Iron Man 2 and The Avengers. From their press release: Marvel today updated its feature film slate strategy and plans for the next three years, locking in key release windows for its character franchises. In order to focus its attention on maximizing the success of an Iron Man sequel and the launch of Thor in the summer of 2010 and because Marvel believes that the summer is the optimal time to launch a new property, the Company will not release a self produced film in 2009....

While this 2002 psychological horror film might seem like it had some solid source material or a definitive model, May started simply as an idea. Director Lucky McKee, responsible for films like The Woman and The Woods, tells Horror News that May was just “something that popped into [his] head one day.” McKee says that his ideas “either grow to be a giant tree or eventually get sprayed with Round Up and removed....

Long-standing metal band Metallica (featuring members James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo) is moving forward on a 3D feature film with Journey to the Center of the Earth and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island producer Charlotte Huggins. It is not known what type of feature film the band is planning. It could be anything from a Tommy-inspired rock opera, to a drama, to a documentary, to a 3D concert film, which has become a popular genre amongst best selling musicians....

Michael Cole talks about the show, his hometown of Madison Wisconsin and the awful Mod Squad movie The Mod Squad originally aired from 1968 to 1973, so it was a little before my time, and I had to do a little research on Michael Cole before this interview. I found out he was born in Madison Wisconsin, which is only a few hours from where I live in Minnesota currently. When I told him where I lived, he told me he had cousins that still lived there....

Academy Award winner Paolo Sorrentino (Youth, The Young Pope, The Great Beauty) is on board to direct Mob Girl, an upcoming gangster film starring Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Lining’s Playbook, The Sparrow). The movie is based on Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Teresa Carpenter true-crime story Mob Girl: A Woman’s Life in the Underworld, published in 1992. The book is adapted to the big screen by Angelina Burnett (The Americans, Hannibal) and recounts the real-life story of mob mistress turned police informant Arlyne Brickman....

New projects set in the Mortal Kombat reboot universe are reportedly in the works. In 2021, it’s hard to accurately assess just how successful a major movie release might be, a matter made more difficult with day-and-date releases. For the whole year, Warner Bros. has been releasing blockbuster releases on HBO Max on the same day as their theatrical premieres, and Mortal Kombat became one of those movies in April....
